Balancing and

Diagnostic Systems

Schenck RoTec Press Release

Darmstadt, May 2009

The balancing service of Schenck RoTec ensures the quality of rotors

Throughout the complete service life, balancing is a central factor for the market success and durability of any rotating component. The balancing and overspeed service of Schenck RoTec therefore accompanies every phase in the product cycle of rotors. Its services come into play during development, as well as during production and maintenance.

Are the design calculations right? Is the prototype working as expected? And how smoothly will the rotor turn in later actual operation? These are typical questions to which the specialists of the Schenck RoTec balancing and overspeed service have reliable answers. They are there at all times to assist customers and users in all phases of the life cycle of roller- and disk-type rotors with the latest measurement and diagnosis technology. Irrespective of whether a design has to be verified in its development stage, whether quality testing is imminent in series production, or whether rotors have to be rebalanced during maintenance.

European service network

Schenck RoTec now operates four permanent balancing centres in Germany alone, with a further 14 throughout Europe. Here our qualified specialists work on solutions for customers in the automotive industry, electronics technology, aerospace, engine construction and engineering. In a weight range extending from 1.0 gram up to 50 tonnes, they check individual rotors or complete components, balancing small and large series parts or correcting vibrations of machines direct on site (field balancing). Their specialities include the precision balancing of tiny rotors down to a residual unbalance of a few micrograms to the balancing of large rotors with individually adapted, highly economic procedures. The comprehensive service network and lean processes ensure the fastest possible delivery times. And if necessary, balancing can be carried out overnight or in the presence of the customer.

The technical equipment of the balancing centres of Schenck RoTec conforms to the cutting edge of the technology, and always benefits from the latest new developments of the equipment manufacturer. On this basis, our service experts can both provide sound consultancy services in the earliest stages of development and research projects, and take over the role of the ‘extended workbench’, in order to remedy capacity bottlenecks in the series production of their customers. Qualified results are also available to those who have to put their products through exacting strength and burst testing (overspeed service). Our accredited laboratory is also available for the periodic checking of master and setting rotors and bias and test weights (such as for crankshafts).

Balancing ensures product success

Balancing is a decisive step in the quality assurance of rotors of any type – in whatever sector and at whatever stage of a “product career”. It is the essential determinant for precision, performance and service life of rotating components. Whether for shafts, rollers or tools; whether for flywheels, turbochargers or pump impellers – in today’s competition, only exactly balanced rotors have any real chance of success.

The Schenck RoTec balancing and overspeed service is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001, DIN EN ISO 14001, VDA 6.4 and Ford Q1.
