POST:KS2 Co-ordinator (Upper Prep Year 3 – Year 6)

RESPONSIBLE TO:The Headmaster

LOCATION:Fairfield Preparatory School

Job Purpose

To be the lead professional in the Upper Prep department at Fairfield, ensuring the Headmaster is kept informed and up-to-date of all national initiatives in the independent and maintained sectors that impact upon this phase of education.

The Upper Prep Co-ordinator will:

  • model best practice to colleagues in the Upper Prep department through excellent teaching, commitment to whole school life and professional integrity.
  • ensure the effective and efficient running of the Upper Prep by fully implementing school policies and procedures across the Year groups.
  • chair weekly Upper Prep meetings at Fairfield, organise an agenda and feedback issues to the Senior Management Team.
  • ensure high standards of pupil behaviour around the school, and particularly in the Upper Prep.
  • ensure high standards of pastoral care for pupils, including dealing with child protection and welfare issues as they arise.
  • ensure a high visibility to parents, both at the end of the day, and during key moments in the life of the department and school.
  • assist the Headmaster in the quality assurance of the Upper Prep by carrying out lesson observations and feedback to staff.
  • represent Fairfield at conferences and events when asked to do so.
  • have a good working knowledge of the Independent School Regulations and help assist the Headmaster in ensuring Fairfield is ‘inspection ready’.
  • contribute to all relevant information to Governors’ reports and School Self-Evaluation documents as requested by the Headmaster.

Key Duties

The Upper Prep Co-ordinator will:

  • establish good relationships, encourage good working practices and support and lead teachers in the Upper Prep.
  • work closely with the Pre-Prep Co-ordinator to ensure continuity between Year 2 and Year 3.
  • assist the Deputy Head (Academic) in ensuring a smooth transition between Year 6 and Year 7.
  • work with the School Registrar to assist with the recruitment and induction process into the Upper Prep at Fairfield.
  • oversee all aspects of the organisation and management of the Upper Prep, including preparing agendas, chairing meetings, organising rotas for assembly and playground duties in order to ensure that school policies and practices are being delivered.
  • lead by example in all areas of the curriculum.
  • be responsible for the implementation of the School’s Promoting Good Behaviour Policy throughout the Upper Prep and liaise with the Headmaster regarding any concerns about the behaviour of pupils across the designated Year groups.
  • lead pastoral care of pupils in the Upper Prep, including involvement in lunchtime duties, when necessary, and the running of the Upper Prep School Council.
  • liaise closely with the Pre-Prep Co-ordinatorto ensure continuity and progression across and between the two phases in the approach to policies and practice.
  • oversee the induction and mentoring process of new members of staff within the Upper Prep, as directed.
  • take assemblies, as directed.
  • contribute towards the Self Evaluation of Fairfield for the purpose of ISI inspection and the school’s continuous improvement.
  • scrutinise work samples regularly within the Upper Prep and report findings to the Academic Deputy Head and Senior Management Team, feeding back to individual teachers.

As a member of the Senior Management Team

The Upper Prep Co-ordinator will:

  • contribute to establishing the core values of the team and their practical expression.
  • contribute to management decisions on all aspects of policy, development and organisation.
  • support Heads of Department in the development and implementation of curricular initiatives.
  • attend Senior Management Team meetings and report back to staff when necessary.
  • contribute to the school’s Performance Management programme as a Leader.
  • represent Fairfield at meetings and functions, both internally and externally, as requested by the Headmaster. This will include, but not limited to, Governors’ meetings, marketing events, Open Days and PTA meetings.
  • contribute towards the marketing of Fairfield through participation in marketing events and content towards the website/newsletters etc.
  • attend residential visits as directed by the Headmaster.
  • carry out all other reasonable requests as made by the Headmaster.

In addition to these duties, the Upper Prep Co-ordinatorwill teach regularly as directed by the Headmaster, taking into account the needs of the school, but typically not more than 50% of the timetable.

This Job Description will be reviewed annually as part of the Performance Management process.
