Safe Step® Pro Series® Ice Melter Earns EPA Recognition
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (Oct. 17, 2012) – North American Salt Company, a subsidiary of Compass Minerals, today announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the Design for the Environment (DfE) label to the company’s Safe Step® Pro Series® 750 Magnesium Chloride ice melt product. The DfE label indicates that the product meets the EPA’s stringent criteria for environmental safety.
This is the second product in the Safe Step Pro Series line to receive this EPA certification. Safe Step Pro Series 960 Choice Formula obtained DfE certification last year.
“Most maintenance professionals want to incorporate the use of environmentally safe products, and this EPA designation provides independent confirmation of low environmental impact and an eco-friendly formula,” said Rob Peterson, business director of deicing at North American Salt Company. “Janitorial/sanitation distributors can now cite an objective benchmark when they direct their environmentally conscious customers toward these two Safe Step Pro Series products.”
The EPA’s DfE label is awarded after the agency’s review team screens each ingredient contained in a product and finds each to pose the least concern among similar products in its class.
Pro Series 750 Magnesium Chloride is safe for people, pets, and vegetation when used as directed. Its 100 percent magnesium chloride hexahydrate formula is designed with a unique crystal shape to provide the optimum combination of ice penetration and scatter control, and it melts ice in temperatures as low as minus 25 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 32 degrees Celsius).
