LaVille Elementary School Newsletter September 20, 2013

John M. Farthing, Principal

Ken Shirley, Assistant Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians:

ISTEP: ISTEP testing began in Indiana in 1987. I have been a Principal at LaVille for 21 years and was at a South Bend School before coming to LaVille. I have never had a grade level at either school have all their students, 100%, pass the test. We just received the scores this week and last years 3rd graders all passed, 100% in the English/Language Arts Section of the Test. We also scored the highest scores in our area in 3rd grade Math, 5th grade Math, and 3rd grade IREAD. We are proud! All the grades who took the test did very well.

Kenny Shirley created a chart that shows all the area school corporations and their grade level scores compared to ours. If you look the ISTEP chart over, you will be proud of our school. Not only did our students score well, but our school has the best and most positive atmosphere of any school anywhere. Kenny’s chart is attached to this newsletter.

I would like to commend Kenny Shirley for putting all the scores together and working so hard on our testing. Kenny is the Union-North Test Coordinator, and does a fantastic job.

Big Blue: It is that time of year again to renew your Big Blue Ticket. If you don't have one, I'd be happy to get you signed up. To be a member and ticket holder, the cost is $60.00 per year ($5.00 per month). We draw 6 tickets at our monthly meetings (2nd Wednesday of each month). The first ticket drawn wins $500, the next 5 tickets drawn wins $60.00. Since October is the Kick Off month of the year, the first ticket drawn will win $1,000....so, if you are already a member, thank you. If you'd like to become a new member, come and see me, or call me at Ext 160 and I'll assign you a number. All checks can be made payable to "Big Blue". Please just have checks to me by the first week in October so that I can turn in everything at our October meeting and you will be in the drawing for the $1,000. Thanks in advance for supporting Big Blue and our student athletes. It is greatly appreciated! Dawn Amor

6th Grade Volleyball: Boy, the 6th grade girls’ volleyball team sure looked good Tuesday evening. We totally swept the “Kitty Cats” from Walkerton. Our coaches, Ms. Bethany Lemler and Mrs. Alex Remble, have trained the 6th graders well. Next week we will sweep Triton, at Triton.

Friday I am taking a personal day to attend Grandparents’ Day at my oldest granddaughter’s school. (She is in first grade already!)

And then, this weekend, I have a very busy schedule. Here it is:

LaVille vs. Knox, Notre Dame vs. Michigan State, Colts vs. 49’ers, Bears vs. Steelers –

Boy, I do have a busy weekend!
