Agriscience Exploration (7th Grade)

Syllabus

Course Description: Students explore science as it relates to agriculture and develop an understanding of human relations, communication, the importance of agriculture to the economy, and key scientific terms related to the field of agriculture.

Course Outline:

  • Introduction to Agriscience (overview of how science applies to agriculture)
  • Animal Science (Meat animals, Dairy, and Equine)
  • Plant Science (Review of basic plant science and applying that knowledge in greenhouse setting)
  • Conserving Natural Resources (soil, water, forests)
  • Agricultural Mechanics (Safety, Tool Identification, Measuring, Introduction to Woodworking)
  • Agricultural Research
  • FFA
  • Leadership
  • Workplace Readiness Skills (throughout the six weeks period)

Daily Assignments30%

Quizzes/Tests30%

Projects (Classroom and Shop)30%

Participation/Cooperation10%

Daily Assignments: Daily assignments may include bell ringers, written assignments, completion of notes, or exit ticket.

Quizzes/Tests: You will have quizzes and tests at the end of each unit. Quizzes and tests will always be announced several days before occurring. Sometimes quizzes will occur in the middle of the unit so that I can assess your understanding of the subject matter.

Projects: Projects will be done in the classroom and shop.

Participation/Cooperation: Each week you will earn a participation/cooperation grade. This grade depends on your level of participation, attitude, work ethic, and your willingness to work as part of a group.

*Late assignments will receive a grade deduction (unless there is an illness or other excused absence.)
