Dear Student,

Thank you for your interest in the Partners for Youth Opportunity! If you want to go to be a part of a year-round, multi-year program that offers mentoring, educational support, and workforce development with paid internships, we want to hear from you!

You might be a good candidate for PYO if you:

-Have a desire to graduate fromhigh school on time, attend college and have a rewarding career.

-Want assistance and support from adult role models who can help you reach your goals.

-Qualify for free and reduced lunch or Medicaid

-Are a child of a first generation immigrant

-Have a parent previously or currently incarcerated

When to Apply:

Applications are accepted year-round, with new student interviews and acceptance typically occurring in the Spring and early Fall.

What we expect of a PYO student:

• If you join Partners for Youth Opportunity, we will expect youto remain in the program until you have completed your second year of college (you will be eligible for scholarships for post-secondary education).
• We expect students to be available to meet with mentors and attend community events including cultural arts and service learning.
• We expect PYO students to push themselves academically- we will encourage you to enroll in advanced and AP classes, talk with college prep specialist and attend tours and workshops.

PYO is a significant time commitment and if you are already involved in a comprehensive program (like Student U or Emily K) or are a year round athlete, you may not have the time available to meet our requirements.

To begin the process of applying to PYO, fill out the student application, have your parent fill out the parent recommendation, and a teacher who knows you well to complete the recommendation form. Turn in the student and parent forms by emailing them to r mailing them to 1309 Halley Street, Durham, NC 27707.
