Prior to October 1, consortiums must complete a statement of intent to enter the DPTE competition. Prior to November 1, consortiums must send Dr. Hetzler 10 copies of the DPTE entry signed by the director of the teacher education program.
Amount Note: / The award amount is unspecified. Up to three finalists will be notified prior to January 10, 2008, in order that preparation can be made for a program presentation and exhibit at the ATE Annual Meeting. After the program presentations, the winner and remaining finalists will be announced at the ATE Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana in February 2008. Awards will be presented to both the winner and finalists. (The panel has the discretion of selecting none of the programs if the quality is deemed to be insufficient.)

Abstract: / The Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) presents the Award for the Distinguished Program in Teacher Education to recognize and honor outstanding teacher education programs that exemplify collaboration between local education agencies and institutions of higher education in program development and administration. The association stands committed to recognizing this critical connection. This award is designed to stimulate development and innovation which will bring into harmony all those agencies which have direct involvement in the preparation of teachers. It also is intended to emphasize the association's concern for quality in teacher preparation.
Programs will be considered that
- have been cooperatively developed and administered by institutions of higher education and local education agencies along with other appropriate educational agencies;
have clearly stated goals directed at the establishment of identifiable teacher behaviors;
have an evaluation protocol that is appropriate, operational, and directly related to its goals;
provide data to demonstrate that after program implementation, goals were achieved; and
- are based on theoretically sound principles that are adaptable to other teacher education programs.
