Celebrate a Valley Treasure at 9th Annual Fig Fest

Aug. 5, 2012 (Fresno, CA) – The California fig industry presents the 9th Annual Fig Fest to celebrate one of the region’s most prized and enjoyed treats, the California Fig, on Saturday Aug 11, 2012. The event will be a delicious affair featuring California figs in innovative flavorful dishes along with specialty foods, wine and entertainment at the California State University, Fresno campus.

From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Fresno State’s Ag East Lawn, attendees can enjoy gourmet food samples and delicious wines courtesy of California’s brightest and best chefs, specialty wine makers and food purveyors.

Local restaurants scheduled to participateinclude; Bella Pasta Italian Restaurant, The Cheese Cake Factory, Cracked Pepper Bistro, Etoile Restaurant, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Love & Garlic, School House Restaurant & Tavern, Tavola Italian Kitchen, The Vineyard, Trelio Restaurant and Untamed Chef. Specialty food companies such as Café Corazon, Central Valley Healthy Snacks, Doug-Out Cookies, Enzo Olive Oil Company, Fiscalini Cheese Company, Jammin with Joyce, Nature’s Bakery, P*DE*Q, Rosetti’s Fine Foods Bakery and Biscotti House, Sartori Cheese Company, Squaw Valley Herb Gardens, We Olive, Whole Foods Market, and You Sweet Thing Jellies will also have treats to taste.

While browsing the spectacular food options, attendees can sip wines from California favorites such as Birdstone Winery, Cardella Winery, Carica Winery, Cru Winery, Ficklin Vineyards, Fresno State Winery, Jackson Del Grillo Winery, Quady Winery, and San Joaquin Wine Co.

General Admission tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the gate. General Admission tickets including wine tasting are $13 in advance and $15 at the door and include a commemorative Fig Fest wine glass. Children 12 and under are free.

Fig festivities continue into the evening with the annual Fig Feast, a special food and wine pairing event at The Vineyard Restaurant in Madera, CA. From 6-10 p.m., owner Chris Mariscotti and Chef Benjamin Brandt will showcase fresh savory and seasonal options using fresh and dried California Figs with hand selected wine pairings. Tickets are $75. This fun and tasty event will benefit Fresno State Ag One Foundation and Slow Food Madera.
