Human Resources Generalist I

Basic Job Functions:

Provides the day-to-day HR support on assigned crew(s) and/or departments, which includes working nights and weekends on an as needed basis. Supports the Senior Manager, Human Resources ensures all human resources functions and activities are carried out effectively, efficiently and in accordance with First Solar’s Core Values.

Experience:

  • 1 to 2 years experience in Human Resources required.
  • Proven employee relations experience is required.
  • Experience working in a manufacturingenvironment is preferred.
  • Experience working in a corporate environment is preferred.
  • Experience working at First Solar as a Human Resource Specialist is preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a business discipline or equivalent required, major in human resources or business preferred.
  • Human Resource certification at the PHR/SHRM-CP level preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Must be detail oriented and consistently accurate.
  • Ability to follow up on projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven computer skills in MS Office and HRIS.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Responds to HR issues with manager’s guidance.
  • Ability to use How To’s to complete day to day tasks.
  • Supports complex project assignments, including gathering, collecting and reporting data requested.
  • Duties and tasks are standardized and routine. Resolves routine questions and issues, and refers complex issues to manager.
  • Works under direct supervision and follows standard procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Partnering with associates of assigned crew(s) and/or departments to provide a one stop shop in HR support and act as a backup for opposite crew(s) and/or departments.
  • Attending one production meeting per month.
  • Keeping a pulse on associate morale by actively conducting management by walking around. Communicates associates concerns appropriately.
  • Administer the day to day tasks of the following processes:
  • Investigations.
  • Performance Management.
  • Corrective Actions.
  • Leaves (STD, LTD, FMLA, Modified Work Duty and WC).
  • Termination / Resignation.
  • Changes in associates’ status (including, but not limited to promotions, demotions, etc).
  • Ensuring completion necessary CIS forms for associates.
  • Processing the reimbursements for the safety boot and glasses and maintenance clothing.
  • Responds to unemployment verifications.
  • Organizing and managing the personnel and human resources files, both paper and electronic.
  • Assisting with policy interpretation and adherence.
  • Assisting with the event planning and implementation for the Perrysburg site, including but not limited to:
  • Planning, coordinating and carrying out new hire orientation process
  • Business Update Meetings
  • Recognition events
  • Other events as they arise
  • Answering benefit inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, and courteous resolution.
  • Working with payroll to resolve pay issues and questions brought forward.
  • Performing others duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Will sit and stand for long periods of time during the day.
  • Will walk, climb stairs and on equipment.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist
  • May lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Required to use hands to finger, lift, handle, carry or feel objects.
  • May stoop, kneel, bend, talk and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities are required.
  • All associates working at a First Solar manufacturing or R&D facility may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair).
