Interview and Summation Paper

Criteria for this project:

·  Interview a Health Information professional or Health Care provider. Interview must include at least 5 topics from course outcomes/learning objectives and must be a minimum of 15 questions (none of which should be yes/no or brief answer questions). Course outcomes can be found in the syllabus and objectives are found in the lecture slides. If you would like to submit questions to me ahead of time for approval or suggestions, feel free to do so.

·  You should submit evidence of interview, typed list of interview questions and a 1.5-2 page typed summation / reaction paper. Evidence of interview can achieve this by either submitting audio or video recording of interview OR the name, phone number and email address of interviewee. The summation/reaction paper should combine information from your discussion/interview with content learned in this course and from your personal experiences.

·  Note: Interview does not have to be done ‘face-to-face.’ A phone or web-conferenced interview is acceptable.

Criteria for the paper:

o  See the grading rubric in Angel

o  Double-spaced throughout paper; use 1” margins on all sides; use 12 pt. Times New Roman

o  Submit as a Word doc. (not pdf, wps, etc)

o  Be sure the document file is labeled thus: first last name_short title of paper

o  Drop boxes are to be used for paper and interview submission. Do not submit papers to my email address.

Below are examples of questions students have asked previously and will provide you with some direction as you write your own questions.

What is your educational and work background?

What was the most recent system implemented in the hospital? Who was involved in the process for implementation?

How has technology influenced your role?

How can the EHR improve patient care?

Describe the differences in culture at different workplaces.

What improvements would you like to see in healthcare delivery?

What is the first thing you consider when devising an individualized patient management

Describe your role as a health care professional?

Why did you choose this as your profession?

In your own option how does culture effect health care?

What are some challenges you have encountered working with patients from diverse populations?

Have you ever made a mistake or witnessed an error in treatment of a patient and what did you do about it?

What do you think of the “pay for performance” plans that are being implemented in some hospitals? What effect do you think it will have on patient care? Do feel it could be a conflict of interest?

Do you use PCs/ipads or handheld devices at work? If so, how do you keep the information in them safe?

What do you think are the benefits and downfalls of electronic health records?

What are your credentials and job title?

Has HIPAA changed aspects of your job?

What have you experienced with regard to a culture of safety in your work setting?

What are the frustrations and challenges of working in this field?

How do you feel personal biases should be dealt with?

Do you see cultural difference or ethnicity affecting patient care and in what ways?

As the healthcare systems and policies change moving forward do you foresee problems with Privacy and/or Security, either as it exists today or in the future?

How do you choose a treatment plan for a patient and then relay that information to them?

What processes or tools do you use in the patient assessment?

MU and PCMH have instituted many changes for the PCP. Are we going to see improvement in the quality of care for the patient?
