  5. Make up all assignments missed due to excused absences. One day is allowed for each day’s absence.
  6. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. Please read “Turning in Assignments…”
  7. Grades on midterms and finals will also count for any quizzes or exams missed during that ten weeks due to excused absences.
  8. In order to be eligible for make-up work, students MUST bring a note from the parent to the teacher on the day the student returns to school. See “Turning in Assignments…” for additional information. If an absence is not cleared:
  9. Work may not be made up.
  10. One point per day will be deducted from grade total.
  11. A total of five tardies and/or unexcused absences = “U” in Work Habits.
  12. A total of ten tardies and/or unexcused absences = “U” in Work Habits and Cooperation.
  13. No gum, candy, food, or drink in the classroom.
  14. You will receive a “U” in Cooperation on the final report card if all books/materials are not turned in by the assigned date.
  15. To earn a “D” or better in the class, a minimum of 60% of the assignments must be completed.
  16. No work will be accepted via email.

Grading Policy

1. Each individual assignment is generally graded on the following scale:

A = 90-100%

B = 80-89%

C = 70-79%

D = 60-69%

FAIL = Below 60%

  1. The letter grade is recorded in the rollbook. The subject grade is calculated by multiplying the grades by the following point values:

A = 12

A- = 11

B+ = 10

B = 9

B- = 8

C+ = 7

C = 6

C- = 5

D+ = 4

D = 3

D- = 2

FAIL =1

0 = 0

3. Unexcused absences are then subtracted and the number of grades the class has had is then divided into the total. The following scale determines the subject mark in the class:

10.5 – 12.0 =A

7.5 - 10.49 = B

4.5 - 7.49 = C

2.0 – 4.49 = D

Below 2.0 = FAIL

4. Some assignments are graded with a + or a . These grades are used to help determine Work Habits grades along with the procedures listed above. The Cooperation grade is based on the student’s ability to maintain appropriate class behavior and to follow the class procedures.

**General Information**

This schedule is subject to change and only lists the dates of some assignments. There will be other assignments, some of which you must be in class to participate in. Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate the chapters covered on that exam. The vocabulary/map midterm and final must be taken by all students and count as regular exams, plus as make-up for any vocabulary/map quizzes missed due to an excused absence. Only those students who have missed an exam during that ten weeks due to excused absences take the make-up midterm and final. If you do not miss any exams, then you do not have to take the make-up midterm or final, but if you miss even one then you must take the exam on all the chapters covered during that ten weeks. Journals, maps, and vocabulary are to be in class every day and may be checked without warning. Unless you are otherwise informed, each exam is worth three grades, each vocabulary quiz is worth one grade, each map quiz is worth two grades, and the book report counts three grades. Items marked with a * must be made up individually. The state standards for this class can be found at
