TEXTBOOK

Holt McDougal FL Biology (2012) by Stephen and Nowicki. We will be using several textbooks/resources since I teach a curriculum and NOT a textbook. The best resource each student will have is their class notes!

VOCABULARY NOTEBOOKS and QUIZZES

Students are expected to maintain a vocabulary notebook containing the required vocabulary words for the lesson and the components required for each word. The guidelines can be found in the attached rubric. Please be aware that students will have REGULAR vocabulary quizzes to review the concepts that have been taught in class. Being absent does NOT excuse the student from the quiz. Each student has this syllabus and a textbook to follow at home when a student is absent. Being absent (Satisfactory) gives the student 48 hours to make up any work assigned on that day the student was absent.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS AND RULES

To make this school year successful it takes responsibility. First is the responsibility of me as a teacher to encourage, maintain, and foster a classroom environment conducive to learning. Second, it takes the responsibility of you as students to follow the classroom rules and expectations so everyone can learn.

1. I expect you to be on time for class. Tardiness in my class is not being in your seat after the class bell rings. Being tardy to class will affect your attendance, learning and bellringer quiz.

Unexcused absences have an impact on both

2. I expect you to be ready for class. This means adhering to the dress code, already read assigned course material, and having proper materials (blue or black pen), binder, notebook paper, homework assignments, and etc. No electronic devices or food shall be seen or used during the class period. Any electronic device seen or used will be dealt with accordingly.

3. I expect you to be respectful to everyone in the class. Raise your hand and wait to be called if you have something to say. I do not tolerate people having side conversations; you’re not in class to socialize but to learn. If you disagree with a comment someone made do not voice your opinion! Absolutely NO foul language!

POLICIES

Cheating/Plagiarism: All papers should be composed through your ability to understand and write about course materials. Do not help your friend by allowing them to be lazy, cause your really hurting them. Do not do another person’s assignment for them. Anyone who chooses to cheat will receive a zero grade and dealt with accordingly.

Late Work: All assignments should be turned in on time. Late work will only be accepted when there is an excused absence. A warm up assignment “Do now” activities are turned in within the first five minutes after the class bell has rung.

Seating: students will sit in assigned seats given by the teacher.

Follow this syllabus and your textbook. I'm very structured: Monday through Thursday will consist of a daily quiz, notes/lecture, and a lab/activity. Every Friday is scheduled for the Chapter/s Exam. After the exam, we will have notes/lecture starting us for the following week.

It is the responsibility of the student to stay abreast of this schedule. Should the student be absent, it is the responsibility of the student to makeup any work/notes/labs/activities.

I post grades on Pinnacle regularly! Please check your grades weekly to make sure that you have a grade and that I entered the grade correctly. If you should ever have any questions or concerns, please bring them to my attention as soon as possible.
