Job Title: Programme Funding Manager

Location: London, United Kingdom with regular travel to RI country offices

Salary:£ 33,000 - £ 36,000 circa per annum

Duration:12 months renewable

SUMMARY:The Programme Funding Manager will be responsible for increasing the funding of RI’s International Programme from government, EU and other institutional sources by providing strategic leadership for the building of organizational capacity to establish, maintain and develop long-term institutional funding partnerships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Strategic Development
  • Develop a strategy to increase income from new and existing international statutory and institutional donors and specific foundations in liaison with the Executive Director.
  • Ensure coordination of programme funding, in liaison with the Programmes team and Programme Development team, to maximise funding opportunities and ensure effective grant management.
  • Keep up to date with donor policies, application and reporting processes, remaining abreast of major development assistance agreements and potential NGO funding opportunities.
  1. Identify and Build Relationships with New Donors
  • Seek, initiate and act on opportunities to strategically engage, involve and develop donor relationships, including opportunities for donor engagement with HQ and country programme staff.
  • Approach potential donors and develop professional and productive relationships including holding holding face to face meetings where appropriate.
  1. Programme Funding Development
  • Lead in the preparation of concept notes and initiate negotiations with donors, coordinating and consulting with the Programmes and Programme Development teams.
  • Maintain plans and procedures for the production and approval of proposals.
  • Write detailed, high quality proposals and prepare accurate budgets for large statutory/institutional donors in coordination with Programme Managers.
  • Ensure key staff understand donor requirements (narrative and financial) for relevant proposals and reporting, and provide support when needed.
  1. Grant Management
  • Ensure that quality narrative, financial and progress monitoring reports are delivered to institutional donors as required and in line with contract requirements.
  • Develop and maintain familiarity with and detailed understanding of the grant management requirements of donors which fund grants in respect.
  • Proactively manage grant performance, identifying risks and working with colleagues to minimise them.
  • Manage grant contract amendments, including donor liaison, working with colleagues at HQ and country offices to ensure alignment between revised project implementation plans and budgets.

Undertake other responsibilities not outlined above and assigned by the line manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate degree in Development Studies, International Relations, Public Health, or related field.
  • Experience of working in the international development sector.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing, submitting and securing complex funding proposals to statutory/institutional donors including the EC, DFID, ECHO, Comic Relief and the Big Lottery Fund.
  • Experience of designing and developing and implementing international development programmes in excess of £ 200,000.
  • Demonstrable experience of compliance with different reporting requirements, delivering grant management reports to DFID, EC, ECHO and a range of other European donor institutions.
  • Demonstrable experience of building and maintaining relationships with donors at a strategic level.
  • Experience of complex grant funding such as working in consortia, tenders and multi-country proposals.
  • Entrepreneurial approach and solutions oriented.
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative; meet objectives and tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Excellent written and spoken English to engage with effectively with a wide range of audiences.
  • Excellent team player, able to coordinate and work effectively across a global team.
