PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manage the data collection systems in use within the Institute, particularly the neonatal and gynaecology databases, OBICARE and CARMA. This includes responsibility for :

ensuring that patients receiving care at the hospital are included on these databases;

through selective auditing, ensuring that the data entered by clinicians is correct;

the collation and presentation of clinical activity reports. This includes the monthly perinatal data activity reports, RANZCOG clinical indicators and a clinical report for both the Neonatology Unit and the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit, prepared on a six-monthly and yearly basis;

collecting monthly perinatal mortality statistics;

the maintenance of the information systems.

2. Oversight the operation of HBCIS within the Institute, with particular emphasis on the quality of data being entered onto the system.

3. Oversight the development of new information systems as required, in conjunction with clinicians and the Senior Data Manager.

4. Prepare high-level reports for the Clinical Services Unit management team on clinical activity and outcomes.

5. Collaborate with the Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Director of Neonatology to ensure relevant quality clinical trials are conducted. This involves assistance in both the recruiting and data collection for local, national and international studies being conducted at the Townsville Hospital (six are being conducted at the moment).

6. Liaise with the Data Manager of the Queensland Gynaecological Oncology Service (Royal Women’s Hospital, Brisbane) and the Data Manager of the Queensland Feto-Maternal Service (Mater Mother’s Hospital, Brisbane).

7.  Provide training to new users of the systems.

8. Participate in the development, implementation, review and maintenance of internal systems, processes and work practices. Identify and report areas for improvement to existing practices.

9. Comply with human resource management initiatives, including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity, anti-discrimination practices.

SC1 Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.

SC2 Demonstrated ability to manage the information requirements of a clinical services unit, ensuring the collection and analysis of relevant and accurate data.

SC3 Demonstrated ability to prepare and present reports, submissions and research on a wide range of information management issues.

SC4 Demonstrated knowledge of computer programs relevant to information management.

SC5 Demonstrated high standard of interpersonal skills, allowing effective communication with staff at all levels, external organisations and professional groups.

SC6 Demonstrated ability to manage clinical trials.

SC7 An understanding of, or the ability to acquire an understanding of, human resource management issues including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination.
