Algebra Objectives

  • Create equations that describe numbers or relationships
  • Create and interpret functions to model relationships.
  • Solve equations and inequalities in one variable.
  • Analyze functions using different representations.
  • Apply the properties of exponents to rational exponents.
  • Write expressions in equivalent forms to solve problems.
  • Analyze and solve systems of linear equations.
  • Represent and solve equations and inequalities graphically.
  • Evaluate and compare functions.
  • Build a function that models a relationship between two quantities.
  • Represent and interpret linear models for data.
  • Construct and compare linear, quadratic, and exponential models and solve problems.

100-98 % A+ 82-80 % B-

Quizzes 40%97-93 % A 79-77 % C+ Tests 60% 92-90 % A- 76-73 % C 89-87 % B+ 72-70 % C-

As a high school credit class, students must earn 70% to pass. On middle school reports, you will receive a letter grade for this class. Your high school transcript will only show Pass/Fail for this class and will not be averaged into your high school GPA.

Assessments

Daily, homework and warm-up problems check student understanding.

Weekly, students will take a quiz covering the concepts from each lesson.

Each unit, students will take a test that assesses the concepts from each quiz for that unit.

Students are able to reference their notebooks for quizzes and tests.

Daily Independent Practice (Homework)

  • Listed on board in class each week and on class blog
  • Students record in planner during class
  • Students will typically have time in class to begin IP, then finish outside of class
  • Missing assignments will be highlighted in planner, then I will sign when complete
  • Checked daily for work and completion
  • Questions reviewed during next class
  • Recorded weekly in Powerschoolwith a check for complete or ‘M’ for missing
  • If a student is missing 3 assignments for a unit, parents will be notified and student will make up the missing assignments before being assessed on the unit.

Completing independent practice is the key to success on assessments!

Retake Policy

Students have the opportunity to take an alternate form of any assessment and receive full credit. To retake an assessment, students will need to:

Participate in a reteaching session as planned by teacher

Correct the original assessment

Complete additional practice problems

Complete the retake within one week of original assessment

Tutorials

Stop in for review right away if you have difficulty with an assignment!

Mornings: 7:30 – 8:00

Afternoons: 3:00 – 3:30

Available days will be listed at the front board each week, no appointment necessary!
