Questions and Answers

January 8, 2016

The following list of questions and responses reflects those received during the Digital Literacy and Computer Science Grant webinar on January 8, 2016. Questions have been edited to eliminate redundancy and to improve clarity. For further clarification please contact Denise Brock at or call 503-947-5794.

OVERSIGHT TEAM

Q: Must the oversight team be volunteers, or can they be paid by the grant? What is your
expectation there (esp., for, say industry representatives)?

The oversight team’s travel honorarium and time are not allowable expenses. Many projects include a project manager in the budget, and this is recommended for larger projects.

Q: Please list the team members again. K-12, Labor, CTE, STEM Hub ...

Representatives from:

K-12 education, post-secondary education, business, industry, labor, the CTE regional coordinators, STEM hubs, and the Oregon Department of Education (Denise Brock).

Q: What's the expectation of number of awards?

At least one. Depending upon the quality of the proposals, possibly more will be awarded.

Q: Is this grant just for statewide plans?

Yes, this is meant for development of a statewide plan; however, a statewide plan can start small and be scaled up to a statewide reach.

TEACHER REQUIREMENTS

Q: Should each proposal plan to serve at least 400 individual teachers?

Yes, at a minimum.

Q: What is the time requirement for those 400 teachers? #seat hours?

We are looking more for quality professional development (PD) proposals rather than targeting seat time requirements.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Q: Is underserved also defined as schools with non-existent CS programs?

No, ‘underserved’ would be the definition found on page 19 of the RFP: An English language learner, a student of color, students experiencing poverty, or a student with disabilities.

Q: Can feeder programs include K-6?

You may tie the PD to an existent feeder program; however, this grant is to fund PD for grades 7-12.
