Call for Speakers - Invitation to Present

The DelawareSHRM chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) invites speakers to submit a presentation proposal for our annual state conference. The conference will cover both strategic and tactical views of Human Resources. The 1.5 day conference will be held at the University of Delaware, Clayton Hall, in Newark, DE and will include concurrent sessions. Expected attendance is 300 participants.

What is SHRM?

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 250,000 individual members nationally, the Society's mission is to serve the needs of HR professionals by providing the most essential and comprehensive resources available. As an influential voice, the Society's mission is also to advance the human resource profession to ensure that HR is recognized as an essential partner in developing and executing organizational strategy. Founded in 1948, SHRM currently has more than 575 affiliated chapters within the United States and subsidiary offices in China, India and United Arab Emirates.

What is Delaware SHRM Chapter?

Delaware SHRM is proud to be affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Membership in Delaware SHRM is separate and apart from membership in the national SHRM organization. Human Resource professionals may choose to belong to both the local and national organizations to fully utilize the benefits unique to each.

Since 1974, DE SHRM has provided members with professional development, resources, tools, relevant and comprehensive information, education, legislative updates, leadership development and peer networking to enable members to make informed decisions, stimulate professional growth and enhance workplace contributions.

Over 300 HR professionals, representing large and small companies in all industries, as well as individuals providing products and services to the human resources community belong to Delaware SHRM Chapter. By contributing to the professional development of our HR community, we can positively impact the strength of HR leadership in Delaware organizations helping to make Delaware a place organizations want to grow a business.

Benefits of Presenting at the Delaware SHRM Chapter State Conference:

  • Waived Conference Fee (for a maximum of two active speakers per presentation). Includes access to conference sessions, HRCI recertification credits towards PHR/SPHR certification, lunch, breaks and access to Exhibitor Hall.
  • Speaker’s name and company name on the Conference Registration brochure
  • Recognition for providing credible and accredited education that not only enhances the HR profession, but also your resume, while providing network opportunities and exposure to new professional contacts.

Conference Curriculum:

Our process for developing the conference curriculum is based on the goal of providing a balanced program that meets the variety of skill and interest levels of the conference audience presented by speakers of the highest quality who represent the diversity of the SHRM membership.

Speaker Honoraria:

DE SHRM has a tradition of using educational conference sessions as a platform for innovation in the field of human resource management. We look for contributors who are willing to share their expertise without expectation of payment in the spirit of networking, a purpose for which the Society was founded.

Presenter Application Process

  1. Choose a Topic
  1. Prepare your presentation proposal
  • Title of your presentation.
  • Brief description of presentation.
  • List objectives for your presentation.
  • List the desired outcomes of the session.
  • Describe how session objective relate to professional or personal activities.
  • Describe how objectives can be measured or evaluated.
  • Describe who is your target audience (i.e. Entry, Mid-level, Senior, Executives)
  • Presentation Design Plan – Provide a detailed description of your presentation, including a topic outline, timeframes for each topic, presentation method. How do you get participants to engage with your content?
  • PresenterExperience – Provide a biography of your expertise and experience.
  1. Proposal Review
  • A committee will review each speaker application and select the speakers.
  • Review Criteria:
  • Relevance of the topic
  • Clarity of the proposal application.
  • Expertise of the presenter.

*Proposals received after this date will not be considered.

5. Proposal reviews/speaker selection and notification is expected to be completedby June 15, 2015.

6.If your proposal is accepted, Delaware SHRM Chapter will notify you no later than May 15, 2015.

7. If your proposal is accepted, speaker will be required to:

  • sign a speaker commitment form by May 31, 2015
  • request audio-visual requirements
  • submit a full biography and outline of presentation by June 14, 2015

7. General provisions

  • Applicants are limited to a maximum of two applications per individual/organization on different topics.
  • Speakers are responsible for the presentation of their session and for bringing their own laptop. DE SHRM will provide a projector (remote operation may not be available) for the speaker’s laptop and a screen. DE SHRM will try to accommodate requests for additional/other AV or presentation equipment.
  • Speakers are responsible for their own hand-outs and obtaining copyright permission. DE SHRM will not reproduce any handouts. Travel, housing and per diem costs are also the responsibility of the Speakers.
  • It is prohibited for Speakers to promote their own product within an educational session. Speakers may discuss the use of a product or service within the context of a case-study presentation only. Resources must be multiple and not focus on only one product or service. Speakers with products or services they wish to promote are expected to use alternate methods of promotion; such as being an exhibitor or a sponsor.

Our Mutual Commitment

We expect presenters:

  • To acknowledge they are available to speak during any timeframe of the conference and as such will not request a change to the session time frame assigned if selected;
  • To work closely with conference organizers before the conference and meet all deadlines;
  • To make no substantial changes in content, format, audio/visual needs, room set-up, identity or number of presenters without prior approval of conference organizers;
  • To design and provide high quality PowerPoint presentations by the deadline given;
  • To recognize that a conference presentation is an opportunity to share information and is not a showcase for promotion of business, practice, service or product;
  • To respect SHRM as the sponsoring organization with either positive or neutral comments from the platform.

In return, Delaware SHRM Chapter will:

  • Provide you with your evaluation scores after the conference;
  • Provide a complimentary registration for the conference, including admission to the exposition, educational programs and social events.
  • Grant you valuable professional exposure.
