DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Must be of sophomore or higher classification and have completed one or more semesters at

UTEP.

2.  Must have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 and 3.0 in your tutoring area.

3.  Must maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average each semester they are employed.

4.  Must have passed all portions of the Texas Success Initiative.

5.  Must participate in initial and ongoing training programs as requested.

6.  Must exhibit a high level of expertise in English.

7.  Must be able to communicate well orally and relate meaningfully with fellow students as determined in a personal interview.

8.  Must be responsible and willing to work under supervision.

9.  Having previous experience in either teaching or tutoring would be most helpful.

10.  Must provide two strong recommendations from University faculty or administrators.

11.  Must have no campus disciplinary record.

12.  May be asked to complete a proficiency test related to tutoring writing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Tutors are expected to:

1.  Become familiar with all services of the University Writing Center and related services.

2.  Tutor students individually both in subject matter, and studying and learning skills.

3.  Adhere to a predetermined work schedule and keep record of hours worked.

4.  Maintain adequate records as required.

5.  Dress appropriately and behave professionally.
