Comments/Explanations

Trainer R Hall was reprimanded under LR 13.3 for the late notification of rider for Erin’s Element in Race 4 tonight.

Stewards questioned Apprentice S Carr and YasminMaskiell stable representative for C Goggin in relation to the circumstances surrounding the late notification of rider for Hot To Trot in Race 2 tonight. After considering the information provided Trainer C Goggin was fined the sum of $50 under LR 13.3 for the late rider notification.

Stewards accepted the reasons of Trainer C Goggin for the incorrect declaration of rider for Hoop in Race 9 tonight.

RACE 1 – HORSE OWNERSHIP 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE–1200 METRES

Teton’s Poppy which hadn’t raced for approximately 18 months underwent a veterinary inspection and was passed fit.

Billemma jumped away awkwardly and struck the side of the barriers.

Shortly after the start Arkadashim had to be checked when tightened for room between Hurricane Flyer which shifted in and Yackety Sax shifted out.

Shortly after the start March Hope became unbalanced after being contacted by Five Star General.

Near the 1100 metres Teton’s Poppy was tightened for room by Yackety Sax which shifted in away from Hurricane Flyer. Shortly after Glendevie shifted in away from Teton’s Poppy and tightened Billemma.

Approaching the 800 metres Frogmoor Mal and Glendevie both got their heads up when over racing.

Shortly after Glendevie, when over racing had to be checked when tightened for room by Hurricane Flyer (S Maskiell). Jockey S Maskiell was severely reprimanded under AR 137(a) careless riding and advised to exercise far more care when in similar circumstances he was further advised that when crossing he should not attempt to ease the pace. In not issuing a charge the Stewards took into account that Glendevie had been over racing for some distance and its rider was having difficulty in restraining which contributed to the incident.

Glendevie then shifted out making contact with Yackety Sax which resulted in Arkadashim which was following having to be restrained.

Rounding the home turn Billemma was briefly held up.

Over the last 100 metres Poucher displayed a slight tendency to lay in when under pressure.

Near the 100 metres Aladonilayed in for a short distance.

Kim Moore rider of Teton’s Poppy was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out fully to the line. In assessing not to take more action Stewards were of the view that her actions did not affect the placings.

Brendon McCoull rider of The Stockman which performed below expectations could offer no explanation for the performance tonight. Subsequent to tonight’s meeting Trainer B ADalco reported The Stockman had pulled up well.

Justin Haitana rider of Five Star General was reminded of his obligations regarding his whip use when his mount is out of contention.

Subsequent to the race Jodi Snell trainer of March Hope advised Stewards that the gelding is to be retired.

***Stewards upgraded the track to DEAD (4) at 6.18 pm***

RACE 2 – AN AFFORDABLE THRILL BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

Vision Of Beauty was declared a late scratching at 10.17 am when Trainer J James advised Stewards that the mare had an elevated temperature. Jenny James was advised that she must submit a veterinary certificate prior to Vision Of Beauty racing again.

Hot To Trot jumped awkwardly and brushed Tuktoyaktuk.

Shortly after the start Crystal Reef and Streetwise Savoire came together.

Near the 300 metres Coriace shifted in and inconvenienced Dangerous Geegee.

Approaching the winning post Ladali was restrained between Crystal Reef and Coriace which shifted in slightly.

RACE 3 – TASBREEDERS MAGIC MILLIONS 3YO CLASSIC- 1200 METRES

While making its way to the barriers Justamenace whipped around and slipped over harmlessly dislodging rider Jason Lyon. Justamenace was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field.

Following a report from the Starter that Havana Stash proved difficult to load, Trainers D & S Brunton were advised that a warning has been placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

Bloodshot was slow to begin (1L) and then had to be restrained off the heels of Our Casanova.

Shortly after this Our Casanova made contact with Divine Archer which resulted in Our Casanova being turned in tightening Our Casanova which was checked. During this incident Down To The Wire was also hampered.

Liberty Heights and Down To The Wire raced wide throughout.

Passing the 200 metres Justamenace and Vigilante came together resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Justamenace was then unable to obtain a clear run.

Justin Haitana rider of Bloodshot was severely reprimanded under AR 137A(4)(c) in that he used the whip when out of contention.

Shannon Brazil rider of Frolicked explained that the filly was inclined to lay out in the home straight and she had some difficult in using the whip due to her racing tight to the inside of Our Casanova.

RACE 4 – BROOKLYN PARK MAGIC MILLIONS 2YO CLASSIC - 1200 METRES

Following a report from the Starter that Scouting Around was fractious in the barriers, Trainer N Schuuring was advised that a warning has been placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

Galeocerdo was slow to begin (1L).

Jonolly Lass was slightly slow to begin and then shortly after shifted out towards Erin’s Element resulting in that filly being taken out and Galeocerdo shifting out.

During the early stages Jonolly Lass got its head up when over racing.

Near the 70 metres Rumeron was slightly inconvenienced when Lustica shifted in when under pressure.

When questioned in relation to the performance of Jonolly Lass tonight rider Daniel Ganderton explained that the filly was under pressure from the 900 metres and displayed a tendency to lay in resulting in him using the whip in his left hand. Rounding the home turn he stated that Jonolly Lass continued to lay in resulting in his whip striking the running rail before the filly then having to be steadied away from the heels of Add To Friends. He further added that in the home straight Jonolly Lass still displayed a slight tendency to lay in resulting in him having to modify his riding action on two occasions.

RACE 5 – LAUNCESTON MITSUBISHI CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1200 METRES

The start was delayed when Sahara Shamalproved difficult to load and then reared after being placed in the barriers. The mare underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently passed fit to take her place in the field.

Sahara Shamal was slow to begin losing considerable ground (4L) and was then uncompetitive for the remainder of the race. Connections were advised that Sahara Shamal must complete an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again due to her barrier and racing manners tonight. A post-race veterinary examination of Sahara Shamal revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Shortly after the start Arctic Blitz had to be checked when tightened for room by Nerak which shifted in.

On the latter part of the home turn Sariana’s Quest shifted out away from Shot Of Scarlet and contacted Miss Eye Candy.

Shortly after this Shot Of Scarlet shifted out to avoid the heels of Just Mouse resulting in Sariana’s Quest being taken out onto Miss Eye Candy which was tightened between that gelding and Arctic Blitz.

RACE 6 – CARLTON DRAUGHT NIGHT CUP- 2100 METRES

Prior to the commencement of the meeting John Blacker trainer of Tsar Of Russia advised Stewards that his instructions to Jason Lyon would be to ride the gelding further forward tonight which differs from the normal racing pattern. Announcements regarding this change of tactic were disseminated. Jason Lyon rider of the gelding explained that it dwelt slightly at the start which required him to attempt to ride along in an attempt to fulfil the instructions. However, he got further back than he would have liked and approaching the winning post on the first occasion the gelding over-raced and shifted in toward Keukenhof. Shortly after this Tsar Of Russia shifted out and continued to over-race. He further added that in his view he was then unable to fulfil the instructions given.

Royal Equerry was slow to begin.

Approaching the 400 metres the whip of Sigrid Carr rider of Spotluck made contact with Bulent Muhcu rider of Red Eagle.

Approaching the 200 metres Royal Miswaki was briefly held up for a clear run.

Brendon McCoull rider of Big Time which performed below expectations explained that passing the 800 metres the gelding failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 7 – CELEBRATE THE 150TH LAUNCESTON CUP OPEN HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

Just A Beach began awkwardly and lost ground.

California Wish jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the winning post Punctuate was inconvenienced when Just A Beach shifted in under pressure.

RACE 8 –FASHIONS ON THE FIELD MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE (DIV 1)(1) – 2100 METRES

Prior to Race 7 David Pires rider of Flashy’s Girl advised Stewards that he had been instructed to attempt ride the filly further forward tonight which is different from the normal racing pattern. This change of tactic was publicly disseminated. Flashy’s Girl jumped awkwardly and shortly after had to be checked when tightened for room by Sonetto which was taken out by Our Recital which in turn was taken out by Coin Toss which shifted outwards. As a result of this David Pires was unable to fulfil his instructions of riding the filly in a more forward position.

Correct weight was delayed when Bulent Muhcu rider of Full Magnum and trainer Troy Blacker requested to view the official film. After doing so they were satisfied and correct weight was declared.

Master Alfred raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 2000 metres Keep Racing was inconvenienced when tightened for room by Windedo.

Near the 2000 metres Windedo when being restrained was further tightened when Talking French shifted outwards.

Approaching the winning post the first time Carbon County and Keep Racing got their heads up when being restrained.

Sigrid Carr rider of Windedo which performed below expectations explained that the mare commenced to give ground from the 800 metres but she could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealedWindedo to have a slow recovery rate.

Shannon Brazil rider of Our Recital explained that she was instructed to ride the mare forward however it did not show sufficient pace early and from the 1400 metres commenced to hang in. She further added that from the 900 metres she tried on several occasions to shift to the outside of Carbon County but was unable to do so due to the mare hanging in. Connections were advised that a warning has been placed against Our Recital’s racing manners.

Following the race Lee Smith rider of Talking French dismounted as he felt there may be something amiss with the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sprained both front suspensory ligaments. Trainer S Gandy was advised that he must submit a veterinary certificate prior to Talking French racing again.

RACE 9 – LAUNCESTON COMMUNITY CELEBRATION MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE (DIV 2)(2) – 2100 METRES

Gee Gee Black Fury was declared a late scratching at 3.31 pm when Trainer John Luttrell advised that the gelding was lame in the off hind leg. John Luttrell was advised that a veterinary certificate must be submitted prior to Gee Gee Black Fury racing again.

During the early stages Thorn Man raced wide.

Passing the winning post the first time Topiary was inconvenienced when Rattle’N’Battle shifted in.

Passing the 1400 metres Thorn Man shifted in when not quite clear of Hoop which had to be restrained. Rattle’N’Battle which was following was also restrained as a result.

On the latter part of the home turn Topiary was tightened when Chilli Quest shifted in slightly.

Over the last 100 metres Chilli Quest layed out when under pressure.

RACE 3 – TATTSBET.COM MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1600 METRES

Bill Ryan trainer of Mensa Magic advised that subsequent to the race meeting he had blood tests taken from the gelding which revealed an elevated white cell level. In his opinion this accounted for the gelding’s poor performance on the day.
