INAUGURAL CEO BOOT CAMP PROGRAM prepares NEW YORK All-Stars for 21ST CENTURY success

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (June 25, 2014) — After-School All-Stars New York will host 40 students from New York City at its inaugural “CEO Boot Camp”, a week-long overnight camp focusing on career exploration at St. John’s University (8000 Utopia Pkwy, Queens, NY 11439) from June 28 –July 3. Through workshops, mentoring, leadership training, group activities, and trips to dialogue with local business professionals, CEO Boot Camp builds on the public speaking, goal-setting, teamwork, and leadership skills students have practiced throughout the school year as part of ASAS’s Career Explorations Opportunity (CEO) national initiative, a financial literacy, career development and entrepreneurialism program. The program connects youth with community leaders from the government, business, and nonprofit sectors to help them learn workplace skills and motivate them to create ambitious career goals.

“We are excited to offer our students this unique opportunity as an extension of our year-long CEO National Initiative, which equips our students to be successful in the 21st century workplace” said Ben Paul, CEO, After-School All-Stars.

Students will be visiting a variety of local and national businesses located in New York, including the Uniworld Group, Hudson River Trust, Sirius/XM Radio, Morgan Stanley, Cushman Wakefield, the New York Stock Exchange, and the Associated Press. Each trip will include an office tour, a career panel and a problem solving activity in which campers are presented with an industry-specific challenge and are tasked with devising a solution.

CEO Boot Camp student and staff participants will then be able to leverage their CEO Boot Camp experience at local ASAS chapters to promote lessons and skills of the curriculum and act as spokespeople for the successes and challenges of CEO, enabling best-practice sharing and program refinement across the national network.

In addition to these CEO Boot Camp participants, thousands of additional ASAS students nationwide will participate in a variety of summer enrichment camps tailored around academics, enrichment and health and fitness.
