To whom it may concern:
I write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Ricardo Boulware, who has been employed with Blacksburg Transit for the past 3 years. During his time Ricardo has been a bus operator with exceptional driving skills. Since his employment, he has been very active in supporting the many different initiatives that occur within management and operations. Ricardo is very conscientious and is driven to grow professionally in the transit industry. As such, to expand his transit knowledge, by request, he received the financial support needed to attend the 2010 APTA Transportation and University Communities Conference in Athens, GA. While at the Conference, Ricardo served as a student panelist during the Future University Trends session. He gave a presentation about the growing demand that universities face today and the critical role that transit will play to safely and efficiently move students, faculty and staff. Ricardo recognizes the importance for future transit service planning to meet the transportation needs of growing university populations. Among his fellow panelists, session participants were able to walk away with new ideas and creative strategies to improve transit operations on their campuses.
Ricardo currently holds the position of Supervisor Assistant. As the Supervisor Assistant, under the direction of the Operations Manager and Operations Supervisors, Ricardo acts as the Supervisor on Duty during the night and weekend shifts and provides operations support during the daylight hours as needed. Some of his essential functions are, but are not limited to, conducting shift changes, ensuring that all operators follow handbook policies and procedures, responding to and investigating accidents, and providing customer service support. Furthermore, Ricardo works closely with the Operations Manager, acting as his assistant, performing various duties and tasks that are requested by the Transit Director.
Ricardo also serves as a member of the Employee Advisory Team that meets monthly to discuss various ideas and concepts for continuous improvement of bus services. This group also acts as a liaison between the management team and the operator pool. Ricardo brings a wealth of knowledge to each meeting and his contributions combined with other members input, are used to build morale and to strategize and create efficient routes. Ricardo continues to strive for excellence and contributes to the success of Blacksburg Transit every day. We are lucky to have him as a member of our staff.
In closing, Ricardo’s cooperation being punctual and conducting himself as a professional is greatly appreciated. I offer Ricardo my strongest recommendation for the scholarships he has applied for. I am confident he will excel as a future leader in public transit management.
Sincerely,
Harland Brown
Operations Manager
