Information from Speaker

Autism Spectrum Disorders including Asperger’s Syndrome has a conservative prevalence of 1 in 100. These disorders will be existent in most care homesand most carers will come in contact with people with ASD at some point in their career. People with ASD have a unique view of the world and often present challenges. Approaches to meet the needs of many individuals with ASD are often counter intuitive. It is essential if we are to effectively meet the needs of those with ASD that we begin to see the world through their eyes and take an imaginative leap into their world. These courses aim to give insight into their unique world, promote understanding of why they are different and enable delegates to develop strategies that promote learning for individuals.

Experience of speaker

As a speech and language therapist I have worked for more than 20 years with people on the autism spectrum. Initially working within mainstream and special schools, then supporting individuals within community settings and more recently in the diagnosis of adults on the spectrum. I have developed skills and experience in the management of extreme and enduring challenging behaviour and provide consultancy to organisations on the design of autism friendly strategies and management plans.
