Introduction

What isthe HomeAccessCenter?

WelcometotheHomeAccessCenter orHAC.We hope youwill find thisuser guidehelpful asyounavigatethroughspecificfunctions.

It isdesignedto beeasyto useandequallyas easyinsharinginformationbetweenteachers,students, school officialsandparents. HAC’swebsite is provided fortheexpressuseofthestudents ofRoanoke City PublicSchool Districtandtheir parents toassist in thecommunicationofimportanteducational information.

Wehavebrokenthisuser guideupintoa“Step” based approachthat willassistyouinusingthemodule.Wehaveprovided manyscreenshotsandFAQ’ssoyouhave botha proceduralguidelineand ausefulmanualbeyond the educationprocess.

Wehopethisdocument willassistyouineffectivelycommunicatingwiththeteachers, staff,andmoreimportantly,yourchildren.

Therearesomeslight differencesinHomeAccessCenter for parentsandstudents.Forparentsorguardians of multipleRCPSstudents,theHAC“Parent Portal” versionallowsforviewinginformationfor morethan onestudent. HAC’s“Student Portal”versionallowsastudent toviewonlyhisorherowndata.Theregistrationprocessisslightlydifferentas well,andwill be describedbelow. Otherwise,ParentPortal andStudentPortal areessentiallyidentical.

What Will IBeAble to do in the HomeAccessCenter?

You areabletoview a student’sSchedule, Attendance,DisciplineIncidents,Grades,TestScores, andRegistration(Demographic)Information.

You arealsoableto emailthe student’s teachers as well asviewingandprintinghisor herstudent data. However,youwillnotbeable toupdateoredit theinformationwithin the (HAC).Ifyoufind incorrectorincompletedata,pleasecontact theschooltohavetheinformationenteredor corrected.

NOTE: Onsomeoccasions, the informationyou areviewingwillpop up insmallwindows. Ifyou havepop-upblockingsoftwareinstalled or useGoogleorYahoo!Toolbar, pleasedisableorallow pop-upstobeviewedfor thissite.

Please be advisedthat theHACautomaticallylogsyouoffafterapproximately20 minutes.

  • a randomlygeneratedpasswordwill be createdfor StudentPortal(This willnot changeyourpassword toyourOffice365account)
  • an email will be senttotheOffice365accountwith the StudentPortalpassword

The email will includean embeddedlink to Office365for thestudent tologinandretrieve the password

  • include1 letter1 number
  • no specialcharacters

If thenewpassword does notcontain atleast 8 alphanumericcharacters (a-z, A-Z, 0-9)a notification will be displayed

The HomePage

HOME–This is thefirst screenthatopensafteryou login. Informationappearsin a“WeekView.”

WeekView–Displays astudent’sattendance,scheduling,andassignmentinformationfor thecurrentweek.Previous andfutureweeks canalsobedisplayed. Linksareprovidedfor viewing details onindividualcourses andemailing teachers.

Click the teacher’snametoemail theteacher.

Click the coursenamefor details onindividualcourses.

Click “ViewFull Schedule” toviewscheduleforthe schoolyear. Click Fee Balancetosee alist ofitemsowed.

CalendarTab-TheCalendarTab showsamonth-viewofthestudent’sattendance, scheduling, assignmentsatthesecondarylevel,andclassactivitiesandevents. Changetothecalendartabviewby clickingontheCalendartab.

Hoveringoveranycalendarentrydisplaysthedetails ofthatentry.

AttendanceScreen

Attendance–displaysamonth-viewofthestudent’sattendance that canbe toggledto accessallmonths withinthecurrent schoolyear.

Acolorlegendidentifies thetype of attendance displayed. Placethemousepointeroveradaytoviewmoredetailedinformationonabsencesandtardies.

Tonavigatefrom monthtomonthin thecurrent schoolyear, usethearrowsat thetopleft andrightofthecalendar.

Classes

Classes–Twoviewsare available:ClassworkandSchedule. Clickthetabsonthetopleftofthepagetotogglebetweenviews.

Classwork: Displayscourseassignments, includingthedatesassigned,due dates,categories, andscores for theGradebookassignmentsavailable inaclass. Thescores onlyappear if theyhavebeen publishedbythe teacher.

Schedule: Displaysthestudent’sfortheentireyear. Linksareprovidedby viewing detailedcourseinformationandsendingemails toteachers.

****Twoviewsareavailable: Quick Viewand Full View.Click theFullViewtoggle buttontoviewallinformationsuch as class assignments andstudent average.

Thescreenviewcan bechangedtoviewbyclass orbyassignmentduedates.

IntheOrderbyfield, select DateDueorClass.Click RefreshView.

Viewassignment detail

  • Click theassignmentlink for theassignmentyouwantto view.
  • The pop-updisplays thecourse, assignmentdescription, category,dateassigned,datedue, points, weight,andextracredit informationfortheassignment. Inaddition, this pop-upincludes anyattachmentstheteachermayhaveadded for theassignment.

Grades

InterimProgress Report

  • Displaysinformationfrom the student’smostrecent reportcard. Thepage listsmarks, comments,andabsencesrelated tothestudent’s coursesorcompetencies.Ifcommentswereentered for the student,a commentlegendappearsbelowthe report card information. In addition,you canselect to viewanyprevious report cardfor thecurrentyear.
  • TheReport Card screenwill not be availableduringthetimeteachers areenteringcommentsandgradesfor the marking period.This informationwill beavailable in HAC after3:30pmonthedayreport cardsare senthome.

ReportCards

  • Displaysinformationfrom the student’smostrecent reportcard.Thepage listsmarks, comments,andabsencesrelated tothestudent’s coursesorcompetencies.Ifcommentswereentered for the student,a commentlegendappearsbelowthe report cardinformation. StudentSupport

Discipline

Displays all disciplineincidentsinvolving the student.Theinformationincludesthetypeofincident,category,location,date andtime,andthestudent'sroles, suchas offender,victim, or witness. Additionalinformationontheincidentcanbe viewed byclickingalink to displayapopupwindow.

Registration

Demographic

Displays the student'sbasic demographicinformation,including dateofbirth,gender,grade,building,house/team,andcounselor. Additionalinformation,such ascontactinformation,studentandguardian addressesandphonenumbers,medicalemergencyinformationcanalsobeviewed.

Fees

Allows guardians andstudentstoviewstudentfees andbalances.

User Options

Logoff

Whenyou arefinishedviewingthe student’sinformation,clickLogoff in the toprighthandcorner.This closesthecurrent HAC session,andreturnstheuser totheLogOnpage.

HomeAccess Centerwill automaticallylogyou offafterapproximately20 minutesofinactivity.

MyAccount

Tomake changestoanaccount,click ontheuser’sname.ThisallowsguardiansandstudentstochangetheirHAC passwords andmodifythechallengequestionsthatareasked whenusersforgettheirpasswords.

ChangeStudent

Allows guardians whohavetwo or morestudentstodisplayapop-up windowforselecting anotherstudent.

NeedAdditional Help

If thestudent’s informationis notcorrector isnotentered,pleasevisityourchild’s schoolwithproperidentificationand theschoolsecretarywillupdatetheinformationto reflectyourchanges.

What if the HomeAccessCenterstates, “Noattendancedata hasbeenentered”,does thismeanmychildwas not atschool?

Attendancedataisonlyentered if achildis absent,tardyorothernot inschool/class.If noattendancedatahasbeenenteredthenyourchildWASinschool/class.

What if the HomeAccessCenter states, “Noincidentshavebeenreported thisweek”?

Thisindicatesthatnoincidentshavebeenreportedtoschoolofficialsbutthe teachermayhave hadbehavioraloracademicproblemsrelatedtoyourchild.

Why didthe HomeAccessCenter“kick”me out?

You are automaticallyloggedout ofthe HomeAccessCenter after20minutesof inactivity.After youaretakenbackto thelogonscreen,pleaselogbackinandcontinuereviewingyourchild’s information.
