Job Title:Major Donor/CorporateManager

Location:TheSchool-Home Support Head Office(opposite Aldgate East Tube station), but with potential UK travel

The role of the Major Donor/Corporate Manager

This post is part of a major and vital diversification of SHS’s fundraising strategy toward major individual donors, including those with a direct relationship to the corporate sector. It will require:

  • The research (both formal and informal), identification, evaluation and development of major new relationships between potential new individual (and corporate) supporters and SHS and its work.
  • The development of engagement opportunities, including one-on-one meetings (involving the CEO, Trustees and others as relevant) and fundraising and engagement events e.g. by identifying/inviting prospects and managing the follow-up process.
  • Working inherently closely with other fundraising and SHS staff in order to provide a co-ordinated and highly efficient approach to the funding sector as a whole.

Finally, this new post must meet the agreed targets for the Major Donor/Corporate sectors in ongoing fundraising budgets.

Level of contact with children and young people

The responsibilities of the post require the post holder to have limited contact with children, young people and their families.

Working contacts

Internal

The postholder will be required to liaise extensively with colleagues throughout the organisation.

External

The postholder will be required to liaise with a wide network of supporters, prospective supporters, Board members, other senior external supporters and schools. This is not a definitive list.

General responsibilities

  • To efficiently and accurately update and manage fundraising reports and regularly meet with and updatethe Chief Executive and others.
  • To advise SHS colleagues on new developments in fundraising, through research, reading and attending external meetings. Keep up to date withdevelopments in the fundraising sector and provide analysis in order to support strategic and day-to-day decision making.
  • To keep up to date with SHS’s work to enable the identification and maximisation of opportunities.
  • To ensure that a high level of confidentiality is maintained in all aspects of working with children, young people and their families.
  • To undertake training, as required, in order to carry out duties of the post in an informed, effective and efficient manner.
  • To attend internal team meetings and external events as requested by the Chief Executive.

PERSON SPECIFICATION FOR MAJOR DONOR/CORPORATE MANAGER

This post requires strong inter-personal skills and the ability to relate, professionally and personally, to often very senior individuals with long records of major achievement across many sectors.

It does not demand experience in the third sector in this field, although this might be an advantage.

This kind of ‘direct commercial sales’ experience might be equally relevant to many parts of the commercial sector, including finance, the media and the law (and indeed many others).

This role is:

  • Highly entrepreneurial
  • About people, and how SHS relates most effectivelyto individuals and companies.
  • About flexibility, translating SHS’s work and achievements, and its potential, to individuals with often very different backgrounds and objectives.
  • Highly organised, creating approach strategies and development plans for a large number of prospects, bothindividuals and organisations, at any one time, involving senior and other SHS staff, and Trustees, where appropriate.

This post requires an exceptional candidate.

Essential experience, knowledge, skills and abilities

Experience of achieving income targets.
Educated to degree level or equivalent or relevant work experience.
Excellent writing skills, with demonstrable experience of writing high quality applications, proposals, reports or updates.
Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a wide range of contacts and with varying messages.
Experience of successfully identifying and developing new relationships with key stakeholders.
A strong degree of experience gained from relationship management, account management or customer services.
A passion for making a difference in the area of work that SHS does.
Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise, work on own initiative, self-motivated and be able to “make things happen.”
Flexibility and ability to work well, sometimes under pressure.
Ability topersuade, motivate, network and inspire within a charity environment.
A proven ability to work well within and contribute to a team.
Ability to think analytically, creatively and laterally to identify opportunities.
Excellent IT and administrative skills allied with strong numeracy skills (including the ability to interpret and present accounting and budgetary data).
