The Country Club of Vermont, a 17-year-old private member-owned country club located in Waterbury Center, Vermont and only a few miles from the popular resort community of Stowe, seeks an experienced and credentialed General Manager/PGA Director of Golf.

The club’s stunning 18 hole course designed by renowned Canadian architect Graham Cooke features a front 9 with links style holes and a back 9 with a woodland feel. All holes command breath-taking mountain views. Golf Digest has consistently ranked the course #2 in all of Vermont.

The club facilities include a modern clubhouse with large locker rooms for men and women with individual lockers for each member. The main dining room seats approximately 125, with additional seating available on a large covered porch and patio overlooking the 9th and 18th holes. A beautiful Brazilian cherry bar and stone fireplace enhance the vaulted-ceiling dining room. The clubhouse also houses a board room and staff offices. A number of weddings and banquets are held at the clubhouse each year. Two well-maintained Har-Tru tennis courts further enhance the club and the members’ recreational opportunities. A modern pro shop and fleet of both riding and walking carts offer everything the golfer needs for an enjoyable round

Job Description:

The General Manager/PGA Director of Golf will assume full control of all club operations and report directly to the board of directors. He/she is expected to manage all aspects of the club, including its activities and the relationships between the club and its board, members, guests, employees, community, government and businesses. This person will coordinate, administer and continue to develop the club's policies and procedures, and direct the day-to-day work of department managers and employees.

The successful candidate will enjoy constant interaction with members and prospective members on and off the golf course, and will be very visible and accessible to members and guests on a daily basis. He/she will be responsible for achieving the Club’s primary strategic goal - member retention and immediate increases in membership supported by its marketing and membership committee as well as the Club's Board.

Reporting to the General manager/PGA Director of Golf will be a director of accounting (CPA) with 20 years of experience in public accounting and controllership responsibilities, a seasoned and dedicated golf course superintendent, a clubhouse manager who has grown the F&B experience for the members, and an administrative director well-versed in membership retention and development of policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide enthusiastic leadership and a positive, upbeat image for the club, ensuring that members and guests enjoy premier service, a quality product and an exciting calendar of events. He/she will be responsible for all aspects of the club’s goals and activities and will be expected to devote full attention to member development, operations, planning, and staff training and performance.

Candidate Qualifications and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree (preferably in business administration or hospitality)

· PGA certification

· Experience as 1) director of golf or head golf professional and 2) as general manager or assistant general manager at a prestigious private club

· Personable, engaging and professional

· Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel

· Familiarity with ClubSoft POS and Tee Time software a plus

· Strong marketing and operational management skills

This full-time twelve month position requires living in an attractive central Vermont area where the club is located and will be offered to the best candidate demonstrating the professional qualifications, interpersonal skills and understanding of the work needed to accomplish the club's strategic goals.
