The Sambar Scholarship Endowment

About the Scholarship: Chakib “Chuck” Sambar former President of the Glendale Unified School District (GUSD) Board of Education and educator, had long felt that there were many students capable of continuing their education beyond high school, but were held back due to financial constraints. His wife, Lois Neil-Sambar, was also a teacher in the GUSD and a principal at Rosemont Middle School. Together, they administered the Glendale Scholarship Endowment, now known as the Sambar Scholarship Endowment, which provides scholarships to local high school graduates pursuing a higher education.

College Major/Area of Study: Any

Student Profile: College-bound, graduating senior of a Glendale Unified School District high school. Student must be committed to attending a 2 or 4-year college/university and must demonstrate financial need. Additionally, the student must show that the scholarship will make a difference in the student's ability to obtain higher education.

Mandatory: Awards will be based on meeting these criteria:

Ø  Completed Application (Checklist below)

Ø  Personal Essay/Special requirement

Ø  Official Academic Transcript (GPA, ACT and/or SAT Scores)

Ø  2016-2017 Free Application for Federal Student Aid & Student Aid Report (SAR)

Ø  Confidential Recommendation

Ø  Awardees will be expected to attend CFV’s Scholarship Recognition Event in May 2016

Ø  Official Enrollment Verification Form with Stamp/Seal (Once enrolled full-time for Fall Semester at a College/University or Career Technical School)

Special Requirement: In a typed, personal essay on a separate sheet of paper, the student must discuss overcoming obstacles that he/she has faced during his/her life.


Awards range between: $500 - $1,500

  Confidential Recommendation Letter (either attached or arranged to be sent prior to the deadline).
