Shelter Advocate 1 – Jane’s House

Location: Jane’s House Shelter

Hours: .60 FTE (24 hours a week/8am-2pm & 2pm-8pm)

Rate: $12.50 - $13.50 per hour DOE

Status: Non-exempt

Reports to: Executive Director

Funding: United Way, DHS CFAA DV, DHS FFV, DHS MLT

General Responsibilities
The Shelter Advocate provides individual case management for shelter clients according to the agency’s Case Management Guidelines and under the supervision of the Executive Director. Acting as an advocate and liaison, this staff member provides an opportunity for clients to become empowered through knowledge, referrals and resources. This staff member provides emotional support and encouragement to all clients and their children.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Work with other staff to advocate for shelter clients

2.  Complete assessment, screening, and intake as necessary with shelter clients

3.  Assist clients with setting goals through case management

4.  Orient new clients to the house, services, opportunities, and responsibilities of the program including care of the facility

5.  Provide referrals, education and advocacy for the client that supports their goals

6.  Serve as a liaison between clients and agencies, transporting clients and children when necessary

7.  Maintain client program records and statistics, complete reports in timely fashion

8.  Provide weekly one-on-one case management meetings

9.  Supervise activities at shelter

10.  Provide advocacy, support, safety planning, and resources for DV and SA clients using best practices techniques

11.  Required participation on the 24/7 Crisis Line and Crisis Response Team on a rotating basis

12.  Enter all client contact data into ALICE database

13.  Maintain organization and safety of Basement storage

14.  Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

1.  Ability to support clients in trauma without judgment and work with a diverse population

2.  Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word software

3.  Excellent oral and written communication skills & exceptional organizational skills

4.  Ability to maintain accurate records

5.  Valid Oregon driver’s license and reliable transportation
