Newsletter September 2017

Definitely packing away my T shirts and crop trousers this weekend! We can’t surely be having the Indian Summer now! Put heating on a couple of days ago to check it was still working and ...... left it on! Enough about the weather, we have a busy few months coming up so I will get cracking with this Newsletter.

Those of you who might fancy the Theatre, Worthing Musical Comedy Society have put by 18 tickets for us at the special price of £18 instead of £20 if more than 10 of us go. The production is called The Little Shop of Horrors and is a “deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood smash musical”. It starts at 7.30pm at the Connaught and we will be going on Friday 3rd November. Please let Val know if you are interested by next week as the tickets will then go on sale to the public. Val’s phone number is 237493.

Barry Cranford has asked me to remind you of Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra’s RuleBritannia Concert at the Assembly Hall on Saturday 7th October 7.30 – 9.30. Phone 206206 to book.

Sybille is organizing a Quiz for us on Saturday 4th November at East Worthing Community Centre. It will start at 7.30 and there will be a ploughmans supper and a raffle. It will be £7.50 for members and £8.50 for non-members. Please contact Val as above. There is plenty of parking in The Range car park in Pages Lane.

As you will all know by now 15 German friends including Mayors from Waldkirch, Gutach and Simonswald will be arriving on 12th October for 3 days, 11 staying at the Ardington and 4 with hosts. We have organized what we hope will be an enjoyable time for them and those of you who have expressed a wish to join us. We will be having a celebratory meal at the Ardington to which you are all invited on Friday 13th October at 6.45 for 7pm. The menu and cost is attached to this Newsletter. Unfortunately we could not afford to pay for our visitors as well as our members which we hope you will understand. Please let Val have your cheques and choices asap as The Ardington require the list by 6th October. Any cancellations after this date cannot be reimbursed.

You are also welcome to join us on the pier for the unveiling of the glass plaque to which 30 of you have kindly donated £336 towards the £500 cost. It has been decided to add the £105 taken at the Kaffee and Kuchen afternoon towards this also. Thanks to Brigitte and Val for not claiming any expenses and so allowing this. The remaining £59 will have to come from WTAs funds. The Mayor Alex Harman will be at the unveiling at 10.30am and then the Town Crier, Bob Smytherman will take us all on a walk round Worthing ending in a reception for our visitors at the Town Hall.

Would you be interested in a visit to Germany 19th – 23nd April next year? Please let Val know.

We are expecting a visit from our French friends in mid June next year to celebrate our 20th Anniversary of twinning with Le Pays des Olonnes. So that is something else to look forward to.

Hope to see some of you next month, until then keep warm!
