Activities undertaken during the past year:

Participation on the 6th Global Conference on the Conservation of Domestic Animal Genetic Resources, Magalies Park, South Africa, 09-13. October, 2005. In this conference it was presented the paper “Management and Conservation of Farm Animal Genetic Resources in Serbia and Montenegro”.

Participation on the International Conference on Livestock Services Enhancing Rural Development, Beijing, China, 16-22 April 2006. In this conference it was presented the paper “Activities on Preservation and Management of Farm Animal Genetic Resources in Serbia and Montenegro”.

Participation on the workshop “Rare Breeds of the Balkan: Networking and Capacity Building.” organized by SAVE –Monitoring Institute, hold at Pernik, Bulgaria, 06-08. July 2006. In this workshop we have presented the paper “Status of in situ conservation of AnGR in Serbia”.

NGO “Natura Balkanika” was organized Third “Fair of Balkan Agro biodiversity” in Dimitrovgrad

Running In-situ conservation project

In cooperation with WB/GEF we started with preparation phase of project named “In Situ Agro-biodiversity Conservation”. The preparation phase will be from January to December 2006. year. In this period several studies will be doing: Agro tourism study, Institutional analysis, Environmental assessment and rural infrastructure feasibility and costing study.

Several projects were supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management in Serbia:

1.  “Quality of the milk and milk products autochthonous cattle breeds”.

2.  “Parallel exploring of carcass and meat autochthonous pig breeds”.

3.  “Breeding of Krivovirska sheep-handbook manuel”.

4.  “Adaptation of farm for Krivovirska sheep”.

5.  “Management of Karakachan sheep and Balkan donkey in South-East of Serbia”.

6.  “Interactive farme – turistique program with horses”.

7.  “Development of new herd of Nonius horse in Vrapcha village”.

8.  “Development of new herd of Busha cattle in Chemernik Mountain”.

Main priority actions since 2004:

List the main actions that were taken since 2004.

1.  Identification of endangered breeds

2.  Import 2 stallion of Domestic-mountain pony from Bosnia

3.  Import 4 boars of Mangalitsa from Hungary

4.  Support different projects

Priority issues for the next few years:

List the main actions that are planned in the next time.

1. To finish identification in case of Buffalo and Donkey

2. Increase communication with all relevant institutions in Serbia who are

responsible for management of Biodiversity

3. Develop processing industry related to production of local products

4. Develop of Agro tourism in protected area

5. Make a network with neighborhood country
