Colony Project

Due date October 10th

Directions.

The year is 1750 and your group has been granted a charter to form a colony in the British controlled region of North America. You can name and locate your colony anywhere you want, but your “fictional” colony must be located between two actual colonies. Once you have picked the location of your colony you should create a physical map of the “14” British colonies. The next step will be to create an advertisement to try and entice people to come to your colony. More people means more potential for money for your group. You must also create a system of rule in your colony, you must be able to keep the people happy or they might leave for another colony. Finally you will use the data provided to graph the population of the original colonies and include your colony’s population as well.

Criteria for the four parts to the project:

1.  Map

a.  Create an outline physical map of the 13 colonies and include your colony, make sure you use color and a key.

b.  Highlight the physical barriers that stopped the expansion of the colonies.

c.  Identify the geography of your colony (example-what kind of soil is present).

d.  Identify the climate of your colony.

2.  Advertisement

a.  Create an advertisement to attract people to your colony (be sure to include how they can make money).

b.  Highlight two things your colony offers along with two examples of what each neighboring colony offers. (yours should be different from theirs, but still realistic)

3.  System of Rule

a.  Give examples of how the two colonies on both side of yours are ruled and then create a compact for your colony (be sure to include a preamble).

b.  Your examples should include how law-makers and a leader is chosen and what they are called, how laws are created, and how often the law-makers meet.

4.  Graph

a.  Chart the population of the colonies in 1750.
