PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Greetings and Happy Fiscal Year 2010! I would like to extend a very special thank you to the departing Executive Board officers for 2008-2009 and to all of our wonderful volunteers. Our Chapter could not exist without you, and I personally appreciate each of you and thank you for your continued commitment of personal time and energy to support the San Diego ASMC Chapter.
As outgoing President, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new Executive Board for 2009-2010. I know they are all well prepared, excited and ready to lead the Chapter over the next year. I ask that you give them your full attention and support as they continue to plan and provide the numerous luncheons and educational opportunities for our members and guests.
I have been actively involved on the Executive Board since 2004 and thank each of you for allowing me to be on the board and serve the Chapter. It has been a rewarding experience for me as your President these past three years and I look forward to the future of our Chapter.
Please join us at the next luncheon for presentation of awards and installation of officers!
Cheers!
u Tony

NEW 2009-2010 CHAPTER EXECUTIVE BOARD:
Installation of these officers will be at the October luncheon.
PRESIDENT: SHERRY MAJOR
EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT: DEBORAH MENDIOLA
ADMINISTRATIVE VICE PRESIDENT: KEN SUAZO
CHAPTER SECRETARY: MICHAEL ORTIZ
NATIONAL CHAPTER REPRESENTATIVE: DIANA RAM
MEMBERSHIP NEWS:
It’s been a pleasure serving as your Administrative Vice President for the last 3 years. As I leave this position in the capable hands of Ken Suazo, my successor, our membership is fairly stable in spite of the government downsizing and the San Diego military changes. At this time we have 378 current members (membership fee is up to date) and 89 whose memberships expired between 4/30/09 and 9/30/09. Those of you with memberships expiring before 4/30/09, 6 months ago, have fallen off the membership roster and are not counted here. If you are unsure of the status of your membership, contact me (this week!) and I’ll be glad to look it up for you.
I urge you all to keep your membership accounts up to date. This means not only paying your dues to National on time, but also updating your profile with changes, such as your name, address, or email address. If you don’t provide a good email address as part of your profile and if you are not in the Navy Global Address List, then you will not receive the chapter communications or newsletters. To update your profile with National or to pay your dues on line, go to www.asmconline.org, then to Membership/Renew or Membership/Change of Address. To renew, you’ll need your membership number. If you’re simply updating your profile, go to Membership/Change of Address and you’ll be dumped into an email addressed to the National employee who keeps the membership database, Barbara Gibson. Put your changes in the email and send to her. We, the San Diego chapter, get all our information about you from the National database, so please keep your profile up to date.
u Karen Dalton, Admin Vice President
TOYS FOR TOTS:
ASMC SD members: it’s Toys for Tots time again. Start collecting those toys for our very favorite toy drive. We are pleased to announce that our local Marines from Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific will be returning and assisting us with this great program. Please take this time to teach your family, friends and co-workers the great gift of giving with your contribution to this wonderful program. This drive means so much to so many children and we are always excited and honored to be a part of it This is a popular luncheon so please RSVP early. Guest speaker TBD. See everyone there Wednesday 09 December 2009!
u Sherry Major, Executive Vice President

SPEAKER NEWS
August Luncheon: Thanks to our last speaker Chachi Gorman, Comptroller, COMFISCS, for a great presentation on Navy Enterprise Resource Planning, NERP. We appreciate Chachi and her team’s time spent tailoring this enormous topic to only an hour long presentation. NERP has so many areas to cover it could easily be an all day training session. We certainly have so much to learn about this very complex system. Chachi did a great job answering questions and taking time to explain the various stages and user levels of NERP. This is one topic that will be an interest to every command as they go through numerous hours of preparation, implementation and adjustments. Thank you Chachi and team for a job well done!

SPEAKER NEWS CON’T:
October Luncheon: Our Guest Speaker will be Jennifer Sizemore, Associate Director for Membership and Chapter Development ASMC National. Jennifer will be speaking on the topic “DID YOU KNOW”. I have known Jennifer since I joined back in 1996, and for me there is no one more knowledgeable about ASMC. If you have been fortunate enough to attend a PDI, Jennifer is “Ms PDI”, the definitive POC that can answer your questions at the conference, and that is a huge hat to wear. The PDI’s are always very successful and seem to get better each year. We are very fortunate to have Jennifer as our guest speaker. What a great way to begin and end another successful ASMC year.
Ms. Sizemore has been employed by the American Society of Military Comptrollers since 1991, where she oversees the society’s support to the members and chapters. In this capacity, she coordinates member and chapter service, including the following: manages the member database, responds to individual and chapter membership questions, serves as liaison with vendors who provide membership services, manages membership mailings, designs the National News and ASMC Connection, serves as production coordinator of the Armed Forces Comptroller, oversees the society’s web site, oversees the national Professional Development Institute and the support of chapter leadership training and development. Ms. Sizemore also provides support to the National Executive Committee, its committees and most national programs.
She holds a B.S. in Communication from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and the Society for Government Meeting Professionals. In her spare time, she is a published scrapbook artist, author, teacher and blogger.
