Emmaus Lutheran Basketball Shootout Summary
It’s time for our annual basketball Shootout!! If you are new to Emmaus, our basketball Shootout is an opportunity for our children to have some friendly competition shooting baskets, fellowship for our families & friends, food, and a way to help raise some extra funds for our whole school.
Our past Shootouts have been an amazing success. Our students have had a lot of fun, we have had a large number of families and congregation members attend, and God has moved the hearts of our families and their friends to donate money for special projects around school. Praise be to God!
The monies raised from this event are used to support/fund special projects around school and also for our sports program. Over the years, this special event has made it possible for us to purchase preschool equipment, student laptop computers, big grill for cookouts, resurfacing the basketball court, basketball uniforms, basketball poles, portable basketball hoops, woodchips, recess equipment, and a sound system.
Some of the new items we hope to purchase with this year’s proceeds are the following: new A team basketball uniforms, improve the big field, tricycles and peddle cars for the preschool .
Here is how the Shootout works.
The event is being held on Friday, March 24 starting at 1:45pm and usually concludes around 4pm. Children will shoot baskets from various spots on the basketball court to earn points. Basket heights will be adjusted for age groups. Each child will get three, one-minute rounds to shoot and earn as many points as they can.
This event is designed for all our students from preschool through 8th grade. We would strongly encourage ALL students to participate. They will have fun whether they can shoot a ball well or not. All children who participate will be given a special prize and gift cards are given to the 1st place finishers in each boys & girls age groups.
In the weeks leading up to the Shootout, students will have time to practice during recess and P.E. class. This will help them understand how the Shootout will work. It is also during this time that students are encouraged to ask family and friends to sponsor them (No door-to-door donations please). Make use of things like phone calls, emails, and even Facebook to reach out to people you know (both near and far). Please help your child find sponsors. We have found that the children get even more excited for this event if they have family and friends sponsoring them.
On the donation form you will notice two ways for a child to be sponsored; an amount per point or a flat donation. Over the years, we have found sponsoring a child per point has been more of a motivation for them. We are asking that these donation forms be turned in by Wednesday, March 22. After the Shootout, your child’s donation form will be sent home showing their point total and all donations “per point” being calculated. You can then begin your collection of donations and turn them into school as you get them.
We will also be running a concession stand during the Shootout. If you can help supply items we would greatly appreciate it. Sign-up sheets will be posted by the school parking lot and also in the school office.
Please make plans to join us for fellowship, food, & friendly competition. A fun time will be had by all.
