Job Summary

To co-ordinate Henshaws Community Services programmes with particular focus on Independence Matters, Friendship Matters and Children’s Services operated from Henshaws Community Centres, and when required external community centres, as a resource and service for Henshaws Service Users their family, friends and carers.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as first point of contact for telephone queries and visitors to Manchester Resource Centre; welcome and co-ordinate visitors and colleagues to the centre, ensuring that correct sign in/out processes are followed to meet Health and Safety requirements.
  • Develop, promote and deliver, in conjunction with Henshaws Community Services staff, a calendar of events and timetables of activities for all community based services.
  • Assist the Community Services Development Officer, Manager to maximise referral routes and increase the opportunities for Henshaws service users, their family, friends and carers.
  • Deliver programme sessions, in conjunction with other Henshaws staff, external tutors, volunteers and sessional workers.
  • Work closely with Henshaws Trusts and Grants team of fundraisers to secure external funding for activities within the Resource Centre.
  • Liaise with, and refer visually impaired people and their carers to, appropriate support agencies in the community. i.e. Health, Social Services, Benefits Agency.
  • Support the Vision Support Team with the transition from referral to the assessment team as appropriate.
  • Implement monitoring and reporting systems and Henshaws quality assurance procedures as required.
  • Recruit and co-ordinate volunteers to support Henshaws Community Services activities.
  • Record and monitor client activity utilising information management systems and to respond to requests for information from other staff within Henshaws.
  • Develop, collate and manage appropriate information resources for service users, their families, the general public and health care professionals.
  • Open and distribute incoming post; provide administrative support for any outgoing mailings and manage outgoing post.
  • Support financial record keeping, including recording daily financial transactions, creating purchase orders, creating invoices, and managing cash handling functions when required.
  • Provide general housekeeping and administrative support services to teams at Atherton house/ Merseyside Centre, maintaining and ordering resources as required.
  • Provide administration support to recruitment activities; collecting and photocopying applicant documents and processing DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks.
  • Produce accessible communication formats including newsletters, Audio transcripts, Braille and any other accessible forms required.
  • Coordinate paperwork, attend, support and formulate minutes at Society meetings as appropriate.
  • Attend all Henshaws mandatory and compulsory training sessions, taking responsibility to ensure training is up to date at all times.
  • Take responsibility for your own personal and professional development, including CPD where appropriate.
  • Facilitate training and knowledge sharing across Henshaws Society, and other providers where appropriate.
  • Offer a flexible approach to working hours to meet the needs of the organisation.
  • Represent Henshaws in professional manner at all times, contributing to marketing and recruitment activities for Henshaws Society as required.
  • The employee may on occasions be called upon to undertake work in other locations in order to ensure obligations to students, service users and third parties are fulfilled.
  • Comply with Henshaws Health & Safety requirements and be aware of and adhere to current Henshaws policies and procedures.
