Comparison of characteristics of pre-formed phosphor films fabricated by different silicone resin types

/ Abstract
In order to obtain white LED having the uniform color coordinate characteristics, there are many researches about the conformal thickness phosphor fabrication. We have studied the process of manufacturing preformed phosphor films with uniform thickness using molds from the past.The properties of the pre-formed phosphor films (the curing property, the quality of phosphor film fabrication, breaking strength, and optical property) are different according to the silicone resin type consist of the phosphor film. This has the effects of damage to the phosphor film, it is cannot be release the phosphor film from the dicing tape when phosphor films are feed using the attach equipment to mount the phosphor film onto the LED chip. Thus, it was conducted a study on the change of silicone resin type in order to obtain the characteristics of the pre-formed phosphor film can be picked and attached to the LED chips. First, 3 type of the silicone resin was chosen having different functional groups and was mixed same phosphor at 5 ratio (20, 30, 40, 50, 60 weight percent) for each silicone resin. Therefore, we constructed 15 phosphor slurries in total.For 15 kinds of phosphor slurry, it was measured curing behavior by using DSC. From the DSC thermal analysis, we derived the primary curing temperature, the secondary curing temperature and the total curing reaction heat for each phosphor slurry. Second, Pre-formed phosphors film based on 15 kinds of phosphor slurry were fabricated using the same elastic mold (cavity size 1.0 × 1.0 × 0.3 mm) and same curing time conditions (primary curing time 5 minutes, secondary curing time 10 minutes). Then defects due to bubbling were observed to evaluate the fabrication grade of the pre-formed phosphor.And it was measured the breaking strength of the phosphor films using the micro compression testing machine(compression speed: 0.05mm/sec, compression jig size: 1.0mm diameter). Finally, the optical properties(CIE x, y coordinates and color temperature) of each pre-formed phosphor were evaluated.
As a result, we can find out the these results for each phosphor slurry: (1)curing properties (2)fabrication grade of pre-formed phosphor film (3) Change of compression breaking characteristics of pre-formed phosphor film with increasing phosphor content by silicone resin type (4) Optical property changes by type of silicone resin.Through this study, it is expect to predict whether there will be damage to a phosphor film if it is mounted on top of the LED chip and we can decide the range of phosphor ratio that can be fabricated the white LED package in case of silicone resin type.
