***** -these items will be inspected at the pre-course meeting (held in February)
General use:
- Uniform - correct and complete (for travelling and evening wear)
- Trainers
- Sleeping bag (and liner if not very warm) *****
- Clothes to wear in bed
- Towel and washing kit
- Note book and pens/pencils
- Small alarm clock/phone
- Wristwatch
- Mending kit (needles, thread, safety pins, strong tape etc)
- Boot cleaning gear (wax etc)
Mountain wear:
- Wind and waterproof jacket withnon-detachable hood (or separate garments)*****
- Waterproof over trousers (capable of being put on while wearing your boots)*****
- Walking boots (leather or plastic with sturdy ankle support and plenty of tread)*****
- Gaiters
- Thick walking socks (at least three pairs)
- Warm long trousers- fleece/nylon/wool/soft shell (not jeans/cotton or thick tracksuit bottoms)
- Warm underwear (including thermal leggings)
- Long-sleeved base layers (two)
- Fleece layers (two) or fibre pile jacket
- Warm hat/balaclava
- Buff (optional)
- Gloves/mitts (at least two pairs-one of which must be waterproof and windproof)
Other equipment for the mountains:
- Sunglasses
- Sun cream high UV protection
- Ski goggles
- Thermos flask 0.5l-0.75l
- Water bottles or camelback 2l
- Polythene survival bag (big enough to get inside)
- Emergency rations (chocolate, raisins, dates or Kendal mint cake in sealed container)
- Personal first aid kit (Plasters, blister plasters, safety pins, any personal medicines)
- Compass (Silva type with Romer and large base plate) on lanyard or cord*****
- Whistle (on lanyard or cord)
- Head torch, spare batteries and bulbs
- Map case or large clear strong plastic bag
- Lunchbox
- Map:1:50,000 OS sheet 51- ESSENTIAL
For the three day expedition:
- Rucksack (large enough to carry camping kit, sleeping bag etc) -*****
- You may bring a smaller rucksackif you prefer for day hikes but it must be a minimum of 25l and have a waist strap)
- Karrimat/Thermorest or similar
- Small towel/tea towel would do
- Mug (insulated), bowl, knife, fork and spoon
- Large thick polythene bags or dry sacks (rubble sacks or packing bags - at least three)
- Nylon cord suitable for guylines (short length ie 2m.)
