OXFORDSHIRE SUPPORTING PEOPLE COMMISSIONING BODY - 11 JULY 2008
Face to face response
The position is different in the three service areas, except for the fact the best services are in every case available in Oxford City and services are worst or equal worst in every case in South Oxfordshire..
Telecare
The contracted 24/7 emergency visiting response is provided in two out of the five geographical areas of the county - Oxford City and Cherwell - under contract by Oxford City Council and Charter Housing.
Cottsway, Soha and Vale Housing were also approached to offer this service but none was interested. This severely limits the availability of telecare.
Community Alarms
Community alarms have never been available free to older people on low incomes in South Oxfordshire through the Supporting People programme.
Supporting People has had community alarms contracts with four providers covering four districts – until April 2008 when Vale Housing’s contract ended as it refused a one-year extension accepted by the other three providers.

Sheltered housing
Supporting People has contracts with 21 providers of 48 accommodation based services primarily for older people.
· All 48 services have staff who visit tenants during the day
· At night 20 services have a visiting response, 28 have voice only response
The largest providers that do not provide a visiting response at night are Soha Housing and Anchor Trust.
This means the level of service available to older people on low incomes is again worst in South Oxfordshire.
