Prayer and Faith Facilities
The University of Exeter provides Prayer and Faith facilities on Streatham Campus and the St Luke’s campus. The University’s principles for the use of these Prayer and Faith facilities are as follows:
- Prayer and Faith facilities shall only be used in ways which are consistent with the University’s policies.Particularly in accordance with General Conduct; Section 5 of the General Regulations for Students
- Those who use the prayer rooms and Faith-related facilities on the campuses shall leave them in a clean and tidy condition.
- When using the Prayer and Faith facilities any personal belongings should not be left unattended.
- Posters, leaflets and flyers are not to be placed in places of prayer or in the Faith facilities without prior permission of the Lazenby Chaplain.
- Any mis-use or damage to the University’s Faith facilities may result in a ban from further use.
- Responsible adults should accompany children using places of prayer and the Faith facilities. Please also see the policy (standard) for Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults on Campus
- If you have any concerns regarding the University Faith facilities, the Lazenby Chaplain, Revd Chantal Masonshould be contacted (m. 07501 512855)and then the Building’s Manager.
Thelocations for the Prayer and Faith facilities on the Streatham campus are as follows:
Streatham Campus
- The Quiet Room
The Quiet Room is a multifaith space on the first floor of the Old Library. It is available to students and staff of all Faiths and none, and is a space which can be used for reading, quiet reflection and contemplation. The Quiet Room is a bookable space which can be booked through the Chaplaincy website QuietRoom isused by all Faith communities for acts of worship, prayer, reading and meditation.
- The Mary Harris Memorial Chapel of the Holy Trinity,
The Mary Harris Chapelis an Anglican Chapelon the Streatham campus where Christian worship is offered on week days and Sundays. The Chapel is also available to all students and staff at any time for quiet reflection. Any bookings to use the Chapel for events should be made through the AnglicanChaplaincy Administrator. Email:
- The Muslim Prayer Rooms
The newly refurbished Muslim Prayer Rooms for men and women,with respective areas for ablutions,are located in The Old Libraryon the lower floor. There is also a common room available for Muslim students. These rooms are accessible for students and staff at any time.
- Chapel of the Holy Spirit
The Chapel of the Holy Spirit can be found at the Roman Catholic Chaplaincy on Glenthorne Road. If any group wishes to use the Catholic Chaplaincy Centre, bookings can be made through the Catholic Chaplain, Fr Michael Wheaton. Email:
- The Multifaith Chaplaincy Office (Forum) in the Careers Zone.
The Multifaith Chaplaincy Team has an office and resource area in the Forum. It is the office base for the Multifaith Chaplaincy Administrator and a venue for Chaplains to meet students for pastoral conversations.

St Luke’s Campus
- The St Luke’s Chapel
The St Luke’s Chapel is an Anglican Chapel which is available to all students and staff at any time for quiet reflection. The Chapel also has a lounge area and kitchen space next to it,which are accessible at any point for any group to use. Bookings for groups or particular events should be made through the Anglican Chaplaincy Administrator. Email:
- The Muslim Prayer Rooms
The Muslim Prayer Rooms and facilities for ablutions are located in the Holnicote Building on the St Luke’s Campus. They are available at any time for students and staff.
External speakers and visitors to the University
Anyone wishing to invite speakers or visitors to the University, where places of Prayer or Faith facilities will be used,must submit the standard on-line form for University bookings: Debate or Speaker Event Risk Assessment. The University External Speakers and Events Policyapplies to all speakers who are not members of staff or students at the University.
