FINANCIAL LITERACY SPEECH CONTEST FOR GRADE 11 LEARNERS

  1. The Financial Practitioners Development Trust in partnership with KwaZulu Natal Financial Literacy Association and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education will be running the Speech Contest on Finance in 2013. The speech contest is open to all learners doing Grade 11 in 2013, taking Business, Commerce and Management (BCM) subjects (Accounting, Business Studies and Economics) inclusive of Mathematics. A minimum of two (2) BCM subjects and Mathematics is an important requirement for a learner to qualify to enter this competition.
  1. The objectives of the competition are:

To promote financial literacy among youth

To attract learners to join the financial service industry because there is a shortage of young blood in the facets of this industry.

To assist unemployed youth in securing training careers in the financial service industry.

To integrate theory and practice as an important aspect in the teaching and learning process.

  2. Topic 1:Me and the Law vs the FSPs!! Do we stand a chance?
  3. Topic 2:What financial product can I buy with my pocket money?
  4. Topic 3:Dad/Mom, will we be rich one day?

The requirements for each topic are explained in the rubric attached as Annexure A below.

  2. Prizes of the competition include the following:

First Prize:

  • Laptop
  • A bursary from Financial Planning Institute (FPi). The requirements for the bursary are attached in Annexure.B

Second Prize:

  • Laptop
  • A bursary from PC Training and Business College

Third Prize:

  • Laptop
  • Dvd player

Fourth to twelfth Prizes:Laptops

Third to twelfth Prizes: One year bursaries from INSETA for courses in Actuarial Science, Financial Planning, Wealth Management, Investment Management, Short Term and Long Term Insurance, and many more. The finalists, who meet the requirements of the registered and accredited institutions and courses, can take up the offer once they have completed their matric.

  1. TRANSPORT COSTS AND ACCOMMODATION

The transportation costs for provincial finals will be funded by the Curriculum Grades 10-12 Directorate at Head Office. The accommodation for provincial finalists and accompanying teachers residing outside the radius of 100 kilometers from the venue of the provincial finals will be sponsored by the Financial Practitioners Development Trust
