Church Council Notes – August 22, 2015
Items of interest arising from the Church Council Meeting were:
*John Bumford and John Bader attended a leadership training program in Ballarat and found it very enlightening.
*John Bader gave a maintenance report of upgrading to be carried out. This includes a rear interior section of plaster in the manse needs replacing. Meeting agreed this should be done as soon as possible.
*The exterior paintwork is in poor state and requires painting. It has been many years since the last work was done on this.
*The Surfcoast Shire will investigate the need for speed control signs to be installed around the church car park and kindergarten area.
*New quotes to be obtained in regard to replacing the windows in the SS Hall.
*Joan Caldow reported another successful Annual Luncheon in July with a financial result of $1,025 to be used for maintenance work.
*It was decided to refer the proposal of restarting the Uniting Care program, with Presbytery.
*A letter will be sent to the Victorian Government voicing the dismay at the cancelling of SRI (Special Religious Instruction) in schools – also to refer to Inter-church committee.
Following the meeting a shared lunch was enjoyed by 19 people who stayed on for the Presbytery Review at 1pm.
Presbytery Review
Rev. Paul Blakker representing the Presbytery review team led the meeting last Sunday in the hall. He outlined a summary of the results of the survey that were completed by our members.
A few of these items included the desire for younger people to attend; a stronger commitment for the UCA to continue in Winchelsea under the present arrangement; concern regarding the closure of the Uniting Care Program in our hall.
Paul Blakker suggested that we make a submission to the Simpson Bequest requesting funds to re-instate this program. It was made clear that the congregation would like to see John Bumford allowed to conduct the Sacraments in our church.
This is a brief outline of the meeting. Another meeting will be on Sunday, October 11th, to follow up the issues raised and to decide on recommendations to be put to Presbytery.
