The TybeeMLK Educational Committee invites Savannah/Chatham County High School students who are inspired by Dr. King’s life and his vision of justice for all to enter our 2018 Essay Competition to become an Imam Maajid Faheem Ali High School Scholar.

Read Dr. Martin Luther King’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.”

Essay Questions:

After reading the letter, address the following questions: How did Dr. King define just and unjust laws, and are there proposed and actual unjust laws in our society today?

Research the current topics of immigration and xenophobia?

Awards:

High School students will compete to be named

Imam Maajid Faheem Ali High School Scholars

1st Place $300, 2nd Place $150, 3rd Place $75

All writers will be invited to ride in the 5th Annual TybeeMLK Parade

2pm Saturday, January 6, 2018.

1st place essay winner will read his/her essay.

Essays should be 500-700 words with footnotes.

Double Spaced.

The Educational Committee will receive student essays from October 2, 2017 to November 4, 2017.

No Essays will be accepted before October 2, 2017 or after November 4, 2017.

Only original essays will be considered. No part of the essay should have been published earlier. Any form of plagiarism will result in disqualification of the essay. All essays become property of TybeeMLK.
