Forensic Science Training for Capital Litigators Application Form

The National Clearinghouse for Science, Technology and Law (NCSTL) is offering a 3-day training on Forensic Science for Capital Defense Attorneysunder BJA Grant # 2010-CP-BX-K003The training will be held at the Center for American and International Law (CAILAW) in Plano, TX on June 6-8, 2011.

This training is intended for defense attorneys who actively try capital cases. The three-day training will focus on forensic evidence collection, analysis, and evidentiary issues in relation to criminal capital trials. Potential topics may include but are not limited to: crime scene reconstruction, collection and packaging of evidence; firearms, forensic odontology, forensic pathology; pattern evidence including latent prints; DNA; digital evidence, forensic science research, as well as breakout session on forensic anthropology, questioned documents, forensic entomology and forensic psychiatry. In addition, Day 3 will culminate in a mock trial where practitioners will demonstrate strategies for questioning and presenting forensic experts in court.

All allowable expenses for attendance, including travel and most meals, will be covered under the BJA grant for attendees.

There are a limited number of slots for the training session and every effort will be made to incorporate as many states as possible, with priority given to practitioners who actively handle death penalty cases.

Every effort will be made to ensure equal distribution between all qualifying states. Submitting an application does not ensure a spot a training session. You will be informed of acceptance by April 8, 2011.
