· When will be last date for submitting the application for M.Tech (By Research) programme? When will the programme start? What is the admission procedure?
For every calendar year the M.Tech (By Research) programme will be started twice i.e January and July. The dates for submission of Application will be published in website (In September for January admission & in February for July admission). All the eligible candidates will be called for screening. Admissions will be made based on the recommendations by the expert committee. The screening will be normally in the month of November and April.
· What is the Minimum and Maximum duration of the M.Tech (By Research) Programme?
Full time – Minimum 2 years /Maximum 4 years.
Part time- Minimum 3 years/Maximum 4 years
· What is the basic qualification/eligibility/Criteria to register for M.Tech (By Research) Programme?
Bachelors Degree in Engineering & Technology
· I have completed UG degree from a Foreign University. Shall I register M.Tech (By Research) in Your University?
You can apply for M.Tech (By Research) course provided an equivalence certificate from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi is enclosed.
· What is the Fees structure for M.Tech (By Research) Course? Shall I pay the fees as cash?
Processing fees(non refundable)= Rs.7,500/- + Rs.250/- for Application Form [To be paid along with application form]
Semester fees = Rs.10,000/-[To be paid for each semester]
Comprehensive exam fees Rs.10,000/-[To be paid during Comp. Examination]
Synopsis fees = Rs.10,000/- [To be paid during synopsis meeting]
All fees should be paid by DD drawn in favour of Sathyabama University payable at Chennai.
· Where can we get the application form for applying M.Tech (By Research)? What is the procedure to file the application?
The application for M.Tech (By Research) can be downloaded from the website www.sathyabamauniversity.ac.in/phd/pdf/application_form.pdf. The filled in application should be forwarded to Vice - Chancellor along with the following enclosures.
1. Attested xerox copy of UG Degree certificate
2. Attested xerox copy of UG Mark sheets
3. Abstract (one page write up about your proposed research work)
4. DD drawn in favour of Sathyabama University payable at Chennai for Rs.7750/-(Processing fees Rs.7500/- + Application fees Rs.250/-).
· Will Sathyabama University provide a Guide/Supervisor?
A list of approved Supervisors is available in this website common to M.Tech (By Research) / Ph.D. Research scholar may select a supervisor from the available list with respect to his/her area of interest.
· What is screening process?
The candidates those who have applied for the M.Tech (By Research) programme after scrutinization will be called if they are found eligible. They have to give a power point presentation of their proposed research work in front of the experts. The selection of the candidates is purely based on the recommendations of the screening committee.
· I have attended the screening. But, I have not been selected in the screening process? Shall I get refund of my processing fees? What shall l do?
If a Candidate is not called for screening after scrutinization a part of processing fee will be refund. If called for screening & not selected by the Expert Committee, no refund of processing fee.
· I could not attend the screening process. Shall I get refund of my processing fees?
After scrutinization, if found eligible will be called for screening process, candidates should attend the screening meeting. If not attending the meeting, processing fee will not be refunded.
· My supervisor has been requested to convene first Monitoring Committee Meeting for me. What is the preliminary work I have to do?
Before the conduct of Monitoring Committee meeting, research scholar has to visit and discuss with various departments of Sathyabama University, regarding the subjects (which are related to their field of research) and syllabus which are available in PG Courses (preferably in week end programmes) and submit it to the supervisor. This will be helpful for the Supervisor and Monitoring Committee Members to decide the course work during the First Monitoring Committee Meeting. Research scholars are also requested to submit their Post Graduate level subjects and syllabus to Doctoral Committee which will be helpful to them for not repeating the same as a course work subject.
· I have been selected provisionally to register for M.Tech (By Research) course. I am not in a position to complete the First Doctoral Committee meeting within the prescribed date. What shall I do?
Try to complete the First Monitoring Committee meeting as early as possible with prior intimation to Vice - Chancellor failing which M.Tech (By Research) provisional registration will be cancelled without citing any reasons.
· What are the course work details?
All UG holders have to write 8 course works. All course work should be in the Post Graduate level. In Sathyabama University week end programmes are offered in PG level.
· How to apply for course works in Sathyabama University?
The Research scholars are requested to submit Form 2(Application for Course work permission for Research scholars) to Vice - Chancellor to attend the course work classes at Sathyabama University. Last date for submitting the Form 2 will be intimated in the website. At the end of the semester research scholars have to produce the attendance certificate from the concerned Head of the Departments to Vice - Chancellor which will facilitate the Research scholar to attend the examination. A minimum of 80% attendance is compulsory to appear for the examination. In the case of Directed Study the attendance certificate should be obtained from the Supervisor.
· Whether can I study the course work from any other university?
Yes. The Course work prescribed by the Monitoring Committee can be studied from any other recognized universities in India by producing an official letter of acceptance from the COE of the University in which the candidate wants to do the course work and an official letter of acceptance for the attendance certificates from the Principal of the Engineering College in which the course work will be taken. You have to produce a course completion certificate with marks from the Controller of Examinations of that university.
· What is the procedure to write course work examination at Sathyabama University?
Research scholars have to submit the Form 2 (Application for course work permission for Research scholars) and attend the classes at Sathyabama University. Last date for submission of Form 2 will be announced in the website for each semester. During the middle of the semester the Research Scholars have to collect and submit the examination application form at Centre for Research. Last date for submission of examination application forms also will be announced in the website for each semester. At the end of the semester (after the last working day) after submitting their attendance certificate, the research scholars can collect the Hall Ticket from the Centre for Research. A minimum of 80% attendance is compulsory to appear for the examination.
· What is Directed Study?
The Syllabus for the Directed Study will be framed by the supervisor by taking research area of the Research Scholar into account and should be approved by Vice - Chancellor. After getting approval, the research scholars have to study under the supervisor. The Directed Study has to be taken up as a last subject. But approval may be obtained from Vice - Chancellor immediately after the Monitoring Committee meeting by sending the framed syllabus along with a request letter.
· Shall I do two or three course work as direct study?
A research scholar can do a maximum of one directed study as per the M.Tech (By Research) Regulations.
· I have completed the course work. What is the next step?
You can continue your research work as per the directions of your supervisor. You have to submit a xerox coy of your course completion certificate to VC's office which can be obtained from the office of the Controller of Examinations.
· What is the procedure to submit six months report?
All research scholars will be called to present a power point presentation and to submit their six months report [Form 1, Form 4 & one or two page writeup about the research work with semester fees of Rs 10000/- as demand draft darwn in favour of Sathyabama University, Payable at Chennai during the month of January, July of every calendar year. The dates for submitting 6 months report and presentation will be announced in the Research website.
· When will be my registration confirmed?
After completion of your course work along with a reasonable research work on your area, your supervisor can request the VC regarding confirmation.
· When can I submit my Synopsis? How to prepare for the Synopsis?
After the completion of minimum period with the required research & publications, supervisor can request the VC regarding submission of Synopsis to conduct synopsis meeting. Along with the request letter from the supervisor the research scholars are requested to submit in the form of bound volume with the following details.
1. Xerox copy of the M.Tech (By Research) provisional registration order
2. Xerox copy of the M.Tech (By Research) Course completion certificate
3. Xerox copy of the M.Tech (By Research) Confirmation order
4. Xerox copies of all 6 months report (one page write up) after the conduct of First Monitoring Committee Meeting
5. Xerox copy of the demand drafts (or) printout of fees details from website
6. Extracts from the proceedings of both national and international conference along with presentation certificates
7. Reprints of both National and International journal publications.
· When can I submit the Thesis? How to prepare the Thesis?
After completion of your synopsis meeting you can submit your Thesis within three months.
