Job Description

Position Title: Aquatics Coordinator (GA)

Reports To:Asst. Director, Aquatics


General Function

Under the general direction of the Asst. Director, Aquatics, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing aquatics programs and activities at the AquaticsCenter. Aquatics Coordinators are expected to perform routine and difficult staff work in recreation and take specific responsibility for the assigned recreation programs and oversee personnel.


Job Requirements (Include education, experience and specific competencies)

Current CPR for the professional rescuer certification

Current Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor certification

Current American Red Cross CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard Instructor

Thorough knowledge of the Aquatics Program

Successful crowd control methods

Standard program evaluation methods and report writing procedures

Techniques of effective supervision and training

Knowledge of Aquatics program activities such as swim and water safety classes, water sports and exercise programs as they pertain to the interests of faculty/staff, students, general public and others

Skill in responding effectively to program issues and customer interests

Ability to plan programs, special events and community service activities

Must be able to effectively analyze problems, evaluating alternatives and making creative recommendations

Knowledge of proper supervision procedures and techniques

Maintain accurate and organized records

Skilled customer service, public relations and conflict resolution

Excellent human relation skills and communication skills

Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the University at Albany Campus Recreation

Previous experience (minimum one year) in the Aquatics field

Principal Responsibilities:

Report to and work the duration of assigned shift or find appropriate substitute

Organizes, develops, schedules, and supervises day to day operations of facilities

Establishes performance objectives for Aquatics Programs

Responsible for the recruitment, training and supervision of employees

Maintains records of events and operations

Networks with local Aquatic organizations, and other appropriate groups to develop and provide creative aquatics programs for the community and coordinate the pool use schedule for these programs

Oversees and enforces the ongoing implementation of Aquatics Safety

Provides support to supervisor on a variety of assignments

Ensure that all Campus Recreation policies and procedures are being followed to preserve the safety of each participant.

If an accident/incident does occur, properly activate the established Emergency Action Plan. This includes, but is not limited to activating the chain of survival, performing first aid/CPR within certification guidelines and completing all associated reports/paperwork.

Supervise the Campus Recreation Facilities by being physically present in the assigned Campus Recreation facility

Promptly report all unsafe conditions and concerns to on-duty supervisor

All other duties, as assigned

The satisfactory performance of the incumbent will result in consistent, high quality Campus RecreationFacility and programming, which is key to member attraction and retention.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the following physical activities: climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
