These concepts will be introduced in sequential order throughout the year. Review of these will be varied throughout the year. / 1. A good percentage of classtime will be spent working in pairs or small groups. This will help the student feel “comfortable” in using the language among friends/small group. This is especially helpful in doing some of the text activities.
2. Emphasis will be on use of the language during class time, i.e. Directions given in Spanish, students responding in Spanish, etc.
Only during times of difficult or introductory explanation will concepts be discussed in English.
3. Several “presentations” will be given (individually or with a partner) dealing with the current grammatical concepts. Criteria will be given for a minimum grade with additional “possibilities” to improve the grade on the project/presentation
4. Increased reading and translating will be utilized to improve the student’s ability to understand the language. This is done in small groups/w/partner or as a large group.
5. Time will be given for students to “charlar” [chat] about various topics of interest in Spanish. This will help students develop Spanish sentences “on the spot” and become more at-ease in using the language. / 1. As with all language courses, it is hoped that the students will continue to improve in the 4 basic areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
2. With the increase of vocabulary development, the student will learn how to create sentences using known vocab and use words with similar meanings to “generally” get their sentence understood by others. General understanding becomes more important than “perfection”
3. Many “cognates” [words that are spelled similarly, look like our English words (Latin based)] will help the student understand the meaning of many English words, thus helping with their overall communication skills. / 1.Holt/Rinehart/Winston
