Rhetorical Analysis
Rough Draft
As you look through the international spy museum’s website, you see many things. From moving images to bolded red words, it just catches the eyes of the viewers. The information that they provide makes me want to learn more about the spy museum.[J1] The information they provide is really educational as well, but the website seems to be aimed to the kids even more than adults.[J2]
Red words in bolds catches my eyes and I just keep staring at that word to find out the meaning behind it. It goes along with phrases, ‘Gain Access Now’, or ‘Start Deciphering’ makes it sound like I am actual spy on a mission. The reason I said this website is more aimed towards kids is because of these phrases. To kids these phrases are like a game to them. Remember when you were little, you were playing as a secret spy and you were just sneaking around the house, or actually try to listen to your sibling’s conversation. It is just like that, with all their imaginations going on, phrases like ‘Gain Access Now’ sounds like the kid is in a mission, and makes them want to go to this place even more.
The pictures that are scrolling on the top of the page is the only active thing on the page. It draws attention to my eyes because it is the only thing that is moving. The pictures provide some interesting topics/events that will be happening in the spy museum. [J3]And most of picture in the moving picture is an action photo, which makes it more interesting for the viewers. When the event is clicked on it takes the viewers to the ‘briefing room’ to give little insight about that so it can hook the readers to coming in for that event.
Despite the purpose of the website, which is to advertise the spy museum and to get people to come and buy tickets, I don’t believe it is doing that very well. It does well of hooking the customers in, but I find it really hard to find a place to buy ticket. On the website if you look at the top in small letters it says buy tickets, and that is the only place that says it. It is really easy to over see that and get the reader’s distracted in looking at others stuff.
I believe this website isn’t really user friendly. I believe this website is there to inform of the event that are going on to hook people into coming to the spy museum when the events are happening. Despite it’s non-user friendliness, it is still very attractive on where things are and my eye catches where the importance and the emphasis of the author want the visual aids to go.[J4]
[J1]All websites do this. Your job is to argue how the choices the website makes are presenting the museum in a certain way (perhaps as kid focused and/or educational.
[J2]Emerging theme?
[J3]How do the pictures support the theme that the website presents the museum as educational?
[J4]Not sure this supports theme of educational and/or kids
