1.  Approval of Minutes – The minutes of the President’s Council meeting on May 3, 2005 were approved.

2.  GBC Website – Sean Thompson provided an overview of the redesigned GBC website. The new website will be review by a focus group made up of students to provide feedback. The front page is much improved. We would like to launch the website in the summer. The redesign represents an incredible amount of work.

3.  College Town Concept – Sean Thompson provided a copy of a report that he and other students prepared for a communications class. The report provides some good examples and websites to visit on college towns and the processes it would take for Elko to transition into a college town.

4.  Miscellaneous

·  Erik Seastedt wanted to reiterate that the official GBC policy and procedure guide will be located on the president’s page on the GBC website. A hard copy will be located in the President’s office. Links should be created to the President’s page for any GBC policy or procedure reference. This will ensure that the most updated procedure or policy is being used. Mr. Seastedt recommended that every department look at their policies and update them this summer. Any policy change has to come to President’s Council for their approval.

·  The Nevada legislature voted to a name change for the UCCSN. We will be called NSHE – the Nevada System of Higher Education. We will be officially notified as the when to start using the new name.

·  Lisa Heise reported that the Foundation will be planning a reception for donors who contributed to the donor wall. They will be out sending invitations out soon.

·  John Rice provided a photo of the billboard that advertises GBC in the Twin Falls area. The billboard will rotate throughout the metro Twin Falls area this summer.

·  Paul Killpatrick has a meeting tomorrow with a developer from Florida who has 10,000 acres he would like to develop for vocational and technical schools. The man has gone through ECEDA. The property has a ranch on it already and is located in Independence Valley.

·  Erik Seastedt reported that there will be open enrollments through the end of May. He encourages everyone to fill out health assessment online. Doing so will cut your deductible in half. We have until June 30 to sign up for the flexible spending accounts

·  Summer work hours begin on May 23. The work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a ½ lunch. Each department head can authorize an adjustment to the schedule for hardship purposes.

·  This is Kathy Schwandt’s last President’s Council meeting. The new Faculty Senate Chair, Linda Uhlenkott, will be attending the President’s Council meeting starting May 17.
