The Wild, Wild, Wildest West!
The 5th grade musical, “The Wild, Wild, Wildest West” will be presented on Thursday, April 27 in the school auditorium. Times will be announced at a later date. This group of 5th graders will only be with me 7th hour until Spring Break so please help your child learn her lines as soon as possible. We will be able to rehearse some next nine weeks but they really need to have their lines learned way before that. The costuming ideas for the characters of Widow Cracker, Polly, Prunella, Ida, Sal, April, May, June and August are given below.
I have some long skirts and dresses but not enough to costume the entire cast so if you could possibly costume your child it would be greatly appreciated. Below are some pictures I found for pioneer women’s costumes. Maybe these will give you some better ideas about the possibilities. You can order a costume, get someone to make it or just dig around in grandma’s closet. Sometimes a women’s skirt will be long enough for a girl to wear. Some of these costumes are long, full dresses and some are just a long skirt with a blouse. The only requirement is that the skirt needs to be long enough to at least reach the ankles. Also notice that there are no large prints in the material. Solids, small flowers or checks are better. I do not want them to wear bonnets. Bonnets tend to cast a shadow on the face under the bright lights. Some of the costumes below have an apron and even a shawl. These are optional if you’d like to add them. My suggestion for shoes is “granny” boots (short, lace-up boots) or flats. However, if the dress is long enough you won’t even see the shoes much. If you cannot provide anything for your child please let me know by writing me a note and having your child bring it to me.
She can wear make-up for the show to keep her face from being washed out. If you have any questions let me know.
Thanks! Mrs. White
