School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) has a vacancy for a teacher to work as a Teacher Librarian and Literacy Support. This job will be a 0.4 FTE Term with the schedule to be determined. The successful applicant will be teaching in a vibrant school where collaboration with peers helps guide our work.
The awarded applicant will have recent demonstrated successful experience working in a K-12 setting, and have experience in primary, multi-aged classrooms as well as (preferred) experience as a teacher librarian.
The awarded applicant will be innovative, creative, and demonstrate understanding of the BC Curriculum and the district directions. He/she will be a person who is continually striving to improve pedagogy in a changing educational environment.
Teacher-Librarians are lead learners in information technologies, curators of library resources, teachers of information literacy skills, and promoters of life-long learning in students. They lead the integration of information technology into curriculum.
The role of Teacher Librarian is multifaceted. In addition to supervising and directing the work of the library clerical, it involves assisting students and staff with developing the skills needed to locate, analyze, evaluate and apply information from a variety of sources of media, databases, and technology.
Teacher Librarians support implementation to the curriculum for resource development. They coordinate programs to promote and support student learning and develop an innovative library learning commons.
Required Qualifications:
•(Preferred): Masters’ degree in Library Studies, Technology, Archival Studies, English, or similar OR a Bachelors’ degree in Library Studies, Technology, English AND significant experience in Library as well as qualifications /experience teaching primary grades.
•Certification through the Teacher Regulation Branch with fees paid.

•Implementation of a variety of learning technologies into curriculum
•Implementation of copy right and site licensing requirements FIPPA/FOIPPA it applies to student and teacher online presence
•Working effectively with school learning teams to deepen and enrich learning opportunities
•Coordinating and organizing school literacy programs n with staff, students and community
•The use of digital tools and databases such as : ERAC, SD8Learns, L4U,Google classroom , My Blueprint, etc.
•Building positive, collaborative relationships
•Supervising and directing the work of library clerical support
•Critically evaluating, managing and curating a variety of current resources
•Leading digital citizenship
•Supporting IDS and independent inquiry program
•Effectively managing classroom behaviours
•Current teaching and learning strategies
