Pittsford Mendon High School will host a Certamen Tournament for the New York State Junior Classical League on April 18.
The total cost of the event will be $10.00 which includes the food (light dinner of pizza, salad, and drinks), awards, and participation in the Certamen Tournament. Reservations and money must be postmarked no later than April 10. Checks should be made payable to Pittsford Mendon High School.
Please read all of the following carefully and feel free to call us if you have any questions about any of the information.
1 PERMISSION SLIPS ‑EACH student attending MUST receive written permission from his/her parents in order to attend. This permission slip must be in the possession of the teacher.
2 RULES ‑Please inform your students of the following rules which were established by the Pittsford Mendon High School Administration.
a. No use of alcoholic beverages or drugs.
b. NO SMOKING on school grounds.
c. NO entering areas of the building other than those designated for the Certamen Tournament and Dinner.
d. NO leaving the school building.
e. NO food allowed outside the cafeteria.
f. NAME TAGS must be worn at all times.
g. Students should be aware that any chaperone has the right to correct any undesirable behavior.
h. Students should not bring valuables since there will be no place in which to lock them.
i. Respect for selves, friends, the school, and Latin is #1!
3 CHAPERONES ‑Teachers must provide ONE ADULT chaperone for every 15 STUDENTS. All chaperones will have duties at the Certamen Tournament, Academic Contests and cafeteria. If we all do our part to guide the students through this event, I am sure this will be a success.
4 REGISTRATION WILL BE FROM 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. Please arrive on time. As soon as you have registered, everyone should report to the Lecture Hall 2 for the orientation.
5 CERTAMEN TOURNAMENT (Like Latin Jeopardy with school teams instead of individual participants) ‑Each school may enter 2 teams at EACH level.
MEMBERS MAY NOT BE ADDED TO A CERTAMEN TEAM AFTER ROUND 1!
6 ACADEMIC CONTESTS ‑These are multiple choice tests covering vocabulary, mythology, history, etc. Students will be ranked according to their level of Latin. Ribbons will be awarded.
7 This tournament will end at 7:00 p.m. after dinner and awards.
