Monroe High School is a public co-educational day school that was established in 1897. Monroe High School provides a comprehensive program of educational services, enrolling approximately 1,250 students in grades nine through twelve. Monroe High School operates on a 4 X 4 block schedule and is accredited by the Southern Association.

Curriculum

Monroe High School offers a comprehensive curriculum with a variety of academic levels of instruction. Students may enroll in College Prep, Honors or Advanced Placement offerings. Occupational Prep is a course of study offered to address the needs of students with certain disabilities.

Graduation Requirements, 28 credits

These requirements include four credits of English, four credits of Social Studies (World History, Civics, American History I, American History II), three credits of science (Earth Science, Biology, Physical), four credits in mathematics (including Math I, Math II, Math III,and an additional advanced math), and one credit in Physical Education/Health.

Grading System

Monroe High School has a GPA and class ranking system based on a weighted 4.0 scale. Advanced Placement and honors courses are weighted in GPA by the addition of two points for final grade in AP course and one point for final grade in honors course. This GPA and ranking system includes all students. Advanced Placement and Honors courses provide in-depth instruction to gifted and talented students. Enrollment is determined by demonstrated ability and teacher recommendation.

Advanced Placement/Honors Courses

Advanced Placement courses are offered in English III and IV, Biology, Calculus, and US History. Honors courses are offered in English, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-calculus, Discrete Math, Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry, World History, Civics/Economics, US History, Computer Programming, Health Science, Business Law, Foods II, Robotics, French, Spanish, Band, Theatre, and Art.
